The media shouldn't be using words like 'secure', it's plain stealing, robbing. Nothing else

Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

France was smart, sold their gold in-situ and purchased new gold in EU that is stored in France.
Never have to worry about the fact that US probably already sold the gold, since they sold it in-situ.
Never have to worry about the fact that US probably already sold the gold
People keep saying stuff like this. But I have never seen even a shred of evidence that it is true. A good tinfoil hat conspiracy theory should at least have some hint of its reality.
Who bought the nonexistent gold?
Probably a bunch of armageddon preppers or something
The English-language media is bought by the US
It’s called robbing. They rob Venezuela.
Yeah Venezuela just got mugged by the US.
Not even the first time
On one hand, I guess it’s good that we are no longer pretending to not be an imperial nation and have given in fully to empire.
On the other hand, fuck me I'm so ashamed of this country. I wish people could pay attention to the shit we are doing.
"intervention". Fucking news.
The whole fucking article is just euphemisms.
What do you expect from a site called oilprice.com?
"british move to secure land from natives"
vow to send mercy missions to help with the diesease epidemics obviously brought down on them from god.
To the surprise of no one…
"Securing", my ass. I don't know how much that is, but it have a good chance to be the biggest heist ever. Trump seems to like superlatives associated with his name...
"but I love goooold"
Probably needs it for his "Ballroom".
Steal, that should read
They can’t stop thieving can they?
Thieves, rapists, kid rapists, kid killers.
See it's not stealing, it's securing
Of course, it’s different isn’t it, I forgot
Most US Americans appear to have no issue with this.
Bro most Americans don’t even know about this
I am amazed whenever a 'murican can even correctly point where Mexico and Canada are in a map. The bar is that low
It seems to be common for people here to think the general population is as well informed as Lemmy is.
I wonder what Venezuelans think of this. Do they feel freer after the military operation that removed Maduro? Is Maduro's No. 2 a better president to them? Has life gotten better? What do they think of this new leader letting others take what belongs to the Venezuelan people? Do they know when the next elections will take place?
Small sample/anecdotic, but the ones I know see it a s "not freed, only under new management".
Mind is people that already left due to how things were, so they had little love for maduro to begin with.
Making sure there is still something in the vault after every other country pulled back their gold out of the USA.
There is not enough by a factor of 3; France was the smart one at the table to realize it first
The U.S. has brokered new gold deals with Venezuela as part of a broader push to reshape the country’s resource sector under its influence.
Venezuela is opening its oil and mining industries to foreign investment to rebuild output after years of decline.
Serious concerns remain over environmental destruction and human rights abuses linked to mining in the Orinoco region.
