Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Why do you want to hurt me like that? 😃

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago (2 children)

No no no. He's not the one hurting you. Back and joint pain is what's hurting you!

Also, you're old.

Knees man way didn't I take care of my knees

[–] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 days ago

For real, I was always worried about my back instead because my high school math teacher said don't mess with your back (or you'll end up sleeping on the floor).

Don't listen, they've lost their mind

I was hoping somebody posted this!

Before I even clicked I knew it would be the Billy Cobb cover

[–] ProjektSpartan@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Haha it’s actually pretty good! I get all the references!

Because old.

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

This is how I learnt about the original song.

[–] als@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 days ago

Love me some Cobb

This may be me being a bit pedantic but "1985" is a SR-71 song. They wrote it and did the original recording. The Bowling for Soup version came out 2 months after the SR-71 version. It is one of those songs that the cover is so much more popular than the original most people don't realize that it is a cover.

My oldest was born in 2007. I was born in 1985.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

look at me Mrs I got my shit all sorted out by the time I was 22.

Stupid being an older parent.

[–] TheDoctorDonna@piefed.ca 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

LMFAO I was supposed to have my shit figured out before I had kids?

As much as I enjoy the fact that my active parenting years are over, I have many regrets about being a young and stupid parent. Not sure we were ever ready for that shit.

The one upside is they're out of the house while you're still relatively young.

[–] mystrawberrymind@piefed.ca 3 points 5 days ago

I old now🥲 Also there aren’t too many songs I can sing by heart, but this is one of em! xD

[–] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Just kidding its just your spinal discs.

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 3 points 5 days ago

I heard both halves of this comment.

[–] ThatGuy46475@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

And we are overdue for an Austin powers reboot

[–] FudgyMcTubbs@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oh god. Not after the trainwreck that was "the love guru." The only movie ive ever walked out on at the theater.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

You say "after" like that is a recent event. The Love Guru is nearly 20 years old.

[–] webkitten@piefed.social 2 points 5 days ago

Cool thanks I'm gonna go cry now

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

And I probably wouldn't get most of the references because that's about when I quit paying attention.

[–] IntrovertTurtle@lemmy.zip -1 points 5 days ago (3 children)

would be about 7 if it was written today

My guy. What is 6 minus 7?

I honestly need you to understand basic math. None of this makes sense and I feel like rage bait has hit an all time low with this post.

[–] TaterTot@piefed.social 6 points 5 days ago

The song was released May 21, 2004. That is a gap of 19 years~. 19 years ago, it was 2007.

[–] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Probably best you save comments until you’re sober.

19 years between the original song (2004) and 1985. 2026 minus 19 is 2007. Hence the song would be about the year 2007.

Do I pass maths with a perfect 5/7 now?

[–] TaterTot@piefed.social 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

But we still don't have the answer to 6 minus 7...

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

-1

MAYBE. I'M NO MATH SCIENTIST

[–] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 4 points 5 days ago
