Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1771 readers
140 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

hacker news? what do you mean?

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

"On Hacker News, one of the accounts making personal attacks based on fabrications in most threads about GrapheneOS has been doing it for 8 years. Y Combinator has a financial stake in numerous surveillance and exploit"

[–] hendrik@palaver.p3x.de 3 points 1 week ago

YDI. It's kind of the same vague accusatory tone the post was taking about. We already have that on ycombinator, so it's kinda unnecessary here? Idk. I'd say at least be more specific with your accusations, or it's the very thing the post was talking about.

They did this to me as well, they didn't clarify in DM either... So I removed all my previous content from the community and blocked it.

What's the drama surrounding gOS?

[–] Luffy879@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nothing. Graphene is a niche project aimed at making a secure implementation of AOSP and its standards without compromising usability.

People are comparing it to non-secure OSs which only security feature is a Monthly subscription for a Dns blocker, which Graphene dosent like. And then there's scams showing AI generated pics of Graphene being vulnerable to Graphite to go buy their pre flashed pixels for double the price

But all those links are being deleted by their staff, and I can't find it since the Instagram posts have 10 views at most

[–] Aatube@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

I don't see how that relates to the content of the deleted comments I can see from the modlog.

[–] WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

this is not drama surrounding gOS, but drama surrounding an unofficial lemmy community for it.

[–] Aatube@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

the removed comments are seemingly about some drama surrounding a former gOS lead developer

[–] WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

oh you mean that, I don't know, it's become very hard to follow

[–] Luffy879@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

From my own experience, they are mostly referring to trolls and or stupid people posting links and videos from phoney creators alleging stuff like that Graphene has been hacked by {insert exploit here} while selling their own overpriced phones with Graphene preloaded

Generally what's happening is what you would expect from a niche Project that casual creators (like networkChuck, TechLore, etc) picked up in a video and thus (with no malice to be clear) drove into the mainstream-bullshit-content-mill-3000™

If it's moderated for misinformation I would expect it to be labeled that way, not unnecessary/unneeded comment removed.

[–] calmblue75@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I am clueless even after reading the modlog.

[–] WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago

I'm sorry, I did not include a screenshot pointing out the issue because it was very late, and pc already off.

The problem is the moderator nuking all comments, and banning a user, not for breaking rules, spreading misinformation, or being harsh, but for writing their opinions the moderator did not like. The moderator could not come up with a better reason for their actions than "unnecessary comment", saying that critics and discussion is not welcome in their lemmy community.

[–] WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

ok, here's me being more specific: the moderator of a community deleting comments based solely on emotions instead of facts or rules. unneeded comments is not my wording, that's the reason the moderator has given for deleting all 4 comments and banning a user making one of them

I don't think it's "MLism", I haven't seen the moderator behave as a tankie

[–] TheObviousSolution@thebrainbin.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They chose the .ml instance, that's enough. I mean, just look at the people downvoting us .ml critics, even they don't dare do it with their .ml alts.

[–] WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

plenty average people fleeing reddit can also end up on lemmy.ml, as thats the flagship instance. true, it seems it is not advertised by join-lemmy.org that dominantly anymore, but still
