my understanding is that fish didn't become associated with cats until the great depression when rationing made it logical. have/do cats hunt fish?
cats will try to hunt anything. your toes, their tail, fish, tomatoes, anything. so there'll be some domestic cats that happen to live in a fishy place and have figured out how to catch fish.
There's a type of cat who hunts fish so much it's called the Fishing Cat
And its ancient rival, the catfish.
