You are. I had zero desire to watch it myself, put it on because I was bored, and now I'm literally counting the days until each new episode. Episode 4 in particular was everything I love about Star Trek.
I'm a bit behind, but I think it's a bit hit or miss. The hits are really good, though. To be fair to the show, I've found the misses to be primarily the parts focusing on teen drama because I just find teen drama annoying...while watching a teen drama show (in other words, it's not the show, it's me). The fourth episode, "Vox In Excelso," has been my favorite so far, and it's squarely in the field of great Trek stories.

Can you expand what you mean by this? I have heard this criticism before but nobody has been able to provide me an example from the show of what they mean.
Just so we're on the same page, I haven't seen a single example of drama that I would consider functionally different in form or quantity than any other Star Trek show. There is drama yes, and there are also teenagers. But in my opinion every "teenager" on SFA is far less "dramatic" than (for example) Wesley or Jake and I cannot recall anyone criticizing TNG or DS9 for being a "teen drama".
Jake was pretty level. His big dramatic moments were based around the horrors of wartime journalism, and how to support his friend who receded into fantasy after losing a limb in the war.
Starfleet Academy has an episode based around a prank war between school cohorts, and one of the main plot threads in the first season boils down to "omg does she like me" (so... essentially the same as every Julian episode).
On the other hand, it's got the most relatable captain (technically chancellor) to date, and possibly the strongest recurring villain ever (somehow in a character played by Paul Giamatti).
In short, I agree with you, the fact that the drama is perpetuated by teenagers doesn't detract from the Trek-ness of the show at all.
I mean the petty school rivalry, Caleb and Tarima's relationship, the sports team antics, and the like. To be clear, I also found episodes like "The Dauphin" annoying too for Wesley's teenage issues nor was I particularly into Jake's and Nog's relationship issues. The difference, I think, between DS9/TNG and SFA on this front is that for the most part, their growth is not the point of the show. SFA, by its nature, is a coming of age show, so there are bound to be teen drama and the stories about being a kid or young adult.
To be clear, my complaint is not a complaint about the quality but rather an expression of my taste. In fact, I think SFA is quite good, and I am enjoying it a lot more than I expected. Like I said, when the episode is a hit, it really is good, and the misses have been the more teen-coded "young people problems." And even then, many times it's not an entire episode but just a scene. For example, on the whole, I enjoyed "Series Acclimation Mil," but the bar scenes I found to be "my-first-drink" fare and irritating to me. To that end, there was nothing particularly bad about the scenes, they just aren't my thing.
I'll also agree that the cadets' drama is more subdued than Wesley (especially in "The Dauphin") or Jake, but they were each a single character in the show. There are a lot more cadets by the very nature of the show, so even if an individual case is more subdued, there's still more of it more regularly.
In the end, I think the show is actually really good, and I have enjoyed the scenes with the commissioned officers (especially Lura Thok!). Even the cadets themselves aren't bad; I really really like Jay-den. In general, I've never really liked YA-coded media, and SFA is an exception in that I find it enjoyable.
Lura Thok is such a great character, and I love Jay-den so much. And Tig makes me want to go back and actually finish Discovery.

You are, it’s actually an excellent Trek series. The first three episodes are only pretty good, but it gets really great after that.

The best argument I could make for giving Starfleet Academy a chance is the quality of commentary from the people who hate it.

Mixed IMO. I think the intended audience is teens? Has a bit of a Prodigy vibe, so if you're into that it might be up your alley.

I don't have an answer. I think you can make a good argument for either.
On top of becoming a mouthpiece of the trump administration, they're using like $100 billion of Saudi money to buy WBDiscovery, so I think maximum persuasion would be accomplished by boycott.
Or go play the new Star Trek Voyager game! I really like it, just wish they had gotten more voice actors from the series.
I only watch full seasons nowadays. Just one episode is hardly worth the excitement.
Same for me. I even take it a step further with new shows and don't start watching it at all until after the series has been completed/canceled. Once the full show is available to me, I am free to binge it at my own pace, without having to read other people's opinions between episodes/seasons to sour my experience.
I'm similar but it's a side effect of my general gluttony. I'll watch one episode and immediately want more. I didn't intend to wait until the season was over to binge it all, but it just sort of happened because of life being hectic right now.
