It's gonna be like this for years. Gains and concessions.

I feel like there was an emoji that went with the What time is it / AOC good / AOC bad thing but I can't find it. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 9 points 12 hours ago

It was a meme not an emoji. I think based on a dril tweet.

Turning the AOC good / AOC bad dial while feverishly looking at the audience like I'm on The Price Is Right.

Or something like that.

I don't think he directly did this, note that this is the NY Post trying to tie it to him taking office without saying he did it. I think that there has been a public pressure campaign against this companies presence for a while.

The decision was technically made by the directors of Brooklyn Navy Yard. BNY is city owned, so it is possible there was pressure from City Hall and the mayor, who would have been involved in said public pressure campaign before his mayoral run. Either way a win is a win

I'm happy to see Mamdani be better than the worst. Sadly rare.

Yeah we should totally shit on him for anything shitty he does (ruthless criticism of all that exists) but got to hand it to him for being probably the best mayor in NYC history (a depressingly low bar).

Lol, what? He hasn't even done anything. He's not even close to La Guardia.

Commentary should be confident and fair in both directions. It's been easy for the American (online) left when there is 0.1 percent of institutional power (just Bernie throwing a bone, but still marginalized as to what he can accomplish). Now it's like 0.3% with Mamdani actually able to do something with his position, but it's looking up so we (internet commentators) need to he ready to scale and keep the criticism dialed in imo

0.000003% of communism has been built. Progress!

But in all seriousness his victory at least is something we should hammer hard on against liberals and "centrists". I had an argument with my cousin and her friend the other night when she was going on about how Kamala only lost because she was a woman. I think I effectively got the point across that we really can't know that and that if Biden had been facing election after supporting Israel's massive escalation of genocide he would have eaten shit too.

I think there is something to be said for electoralism at the local level. People like mayors and city councilors have a surprising degree of power to improve basic things like rent prices and zoning, and your vote counts a lot more.
