"And what are you gonna use that for? Buying a PC, perhaps?"

green with a mountain of drugs and a prostitute on each arm: "A what?"

Meanwhile im considering a 4th display for my PC lol

Maybe money was the right choice in the end

I have 4 and a quad monitor mount. 3 would have been fine. 4 is useful sometimes though.

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 7 points 1 month ago

Tbh the entire reason I want the 4th one is for video calls, which is very overkill :3

[–] bunnyBoy@pawb.social 3 points 1 month ago

As someone who has 4 monitors, just go ahead and get the second graphics card so you can support 8. It's never enough

I only have space for one monitor, because the rest of my (large) desk if crammed with speakers, amplifiers, DACs, a record player, vacuum tube phono, and midi controllers. Someday I'll get a super sized desk that has space for two monitors. Four is crazy though, what is the use-case even?

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Good question :3 so 2 of the displays I have are 25" (or 24.5") monitors, those are for my general multitasking, I found one screen to be really lacking for certain tasks, like screen recording for example, as I'd basically have to run everything windowed or across different workspaces, and then switch between like 3-4 apps just to monitor everything that I want, not even counting other apps I want open lol, which gets cluttered. So usually I use my main screen for whatever task im focusing on + workspaces, and the 2nd for chat apps, media (spotify/youtube for podcasts usually), and some other varying apps like a browser/settings/OBS

The 3rd screen is a tv! It's angled away from my desk and towards my bed, and it's basically just for media I want to consume while not sitting in an office chair, like movies, or whatever lol

And the 4th one I considered would be for video calls as I said in a different reply in the thread :3. I was looking at prompters (which are basically just screens reflected on transparent glass with a camera behind it) just cause for me it can be kinda awkward switching between looking at the screen and the camera, and I don't want to look like im just constantly looking off to the side to the other person lol :3. This is very much an overkill solution though :3

Damn, that is a much more reasonable explanation than I expected. Your life seems much more multi-tasky than mine, but I still kinda want an additional monitor now somehow; you’ve converted me, lol. I 100% get wanting a separate screen for meetings, especially, and the prompter solution sounds great. Maybe it is overkill, but if overkill is the best solution, and you can afford it, I would go for it.

Oh I can definitely recommend a 2nd screen when you get a bigger desk lol, even if you don't go as overboard with the multitasking :3 personally it's been a game changer

Maybe it is overkill, but if overkill is the best solution, and you can afford it, I would go for it.

And yeah, definitely :3. It's probably not an upgrade im making in the near future, cause I feel like there's more important hardware I could invest in, but if I do find myself with money to spare, and no real pressing matters it's definitely something that would be cool to pick up

[–] Uebercomplicated@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago

cause I feel like there's more important hardware I could invest in

Well, I can recommend a desk record player, lol. I use the length of my desk-records (e.g., obscure 1€ techno finds) as a pomodoro timer, so I know when to take a break. Actually quite nice, though a little ridiculous as well.
