moviegoers, most of whom were older white women, liked what they saw on screen. “Melania” earned an “A” grade on CinemaScore and 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, a vast discrepancy from the 8% Rotten Tomatoes average it received from critics.

Nothing suspicious about that at all...

It's possible that the kind of people who would choose to watch this movie actually do like it.

[–] Noite_Etion@lemmy.world 33 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Maybe... but It's only 99% from "verified accounts", when you include non verified reviews it drops to 30%.

Additionally, all these verified accounts have usernames with either their first name, or their first name with the last initial (Jane or Mark F for example), many of them also don't go into detail with their reviews, it's just shit like:

Great movie! A must see.

Beautifully done! Sophistication and class. Amazing First Lady!

Great overall movie.

And so much more...

I am sure some magats loved it, but these reviews are total BS.

Barely need Russian troll farms anymore; just trained bots will handle a lot.

And then, pointing that stuff out doesn't make nearly the difference one might hope, as the message is primarily geared towards non-thinkers / binary-thinkers, anyway.

I'll never understand people that jump through so many mental hoops to try to justify what are obviously lies.

Well then, since you've seen the movie yourself rather than baselessly speculating like the rest of us, what can you say about its appeal to its target audience?

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Lol.

In an Attenborough voice:

"Angry and resentful at being so perfectly clocked the resentful forum poster resorts to strawman attacks."

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 week ago

I hear you. They should've pointed that out.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

What do you mean? Only one of the old white ladies that actually went to watch it, gave it a bad review. The other 99 loved it. How is that "suspicious"?

Please stop posting pictures of her

If I could never see Mar-A-Lago Face again I will be happy. The horror.

Seriously. These cunts have made me hate bleach.

Wonder how streaming will do. Free, maybe you'll get some watchers. I'll never watch it personally. I would rather watch Outlander for the 3462nd time with the wife. I fucking hate Outlander

Amazon will force it to be watched before you can use prime video.

[–] JakenVeina@midwest.social 6 points 1 week ago

I mean, it WAS, but not directly.

A slovenian hoe who keeps getting paid for doing God knows what who's slept her way to the top. Yeah just the kind of "filum" I want to watch! JFC!🙄

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I saw a poster for this in the cinema today. It's the first I'd heard of this and i just can't fathom it's existence

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's a bribe for Trump from Amazon.

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But he's a narcissist who only cares about himself and has no respect for women... why would it be that good a bribe?

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Narcissists will often see currying favor with people associated with them as doing so for them. Plus, the "documentary" paints Trump in a positive light as well.

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 2 points 1 week ago

Ahhhh of course plus "they're praising my property"

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

It was the greatest money laundering! You've never seen corruption as bigly as this!

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 1 points 1 week ago

This movie is so unpopular it hasn't even been pirated yet lol.

Amazon paid a staggering $40 million to acquire “Melania” and a follow-up streaming docuseries. Then the company shelled out $35 million on the theatrical marketing spend

Bezos makes about 80 million per day; this is literally just a rounding error to him.
