Going nude adds to the fear factor for the intruder. They know you mean business and don't give a rat's ass.

My first ever screenshoted text! I made it!

Edit: why is there a baby bead next to my name?

[–] ultrahamster64@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Congrats! :)

Voyager says your account is 5 days old, so it adds this yellow mark

[–] agingelderly@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

Ohh ok thanks! I don't see it on Sync.

This is just an old copypasta. Hardly worthy of BestOf.

[–] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 15 points 8 hours ago

Wait, there's old and there's classic.

[–] sramder@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah but… our cultural identity is young and in need of more good humor. I don’t necessarily see this as an argument for owning an uzi for “home defense,” but who really knows… I’m certainly not going back to Spezneyland just to find out 😌

[–] Horsecook@sh.itjust.works 13 points 8 hours ago (3 children)

The source of the copypasta is 4chan/k/, and it was written as an argument for personal ownership of automatic firearms.

[–] BremboTheFourth@piefed.ca 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Wait, for personal ownership? It's always read to me more as an argument for gun control. Like, "the founding fathers obviously never intended for Joe Shmoe to have serious military hardware, not even in their day, so we should be banning automatic rifles and the like."

[–] Horsecook@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

The Revolutionary War was fought with privately owned rifles, cannons, and warships. Every form of military hardware available at the time was privately owned by Americans. Gun laws of the time typically mandated a minimum ownership of a firearm and ammunition.

[–] BremboTheFourth@piefed.ca 0 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

That type of hardware still would have been owned only by corporations and the absolute wealthiest people, and it certainly wasn't getting wheeled out for home defense.

[–] Horsecook@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

Certainly, not everyone owned a cannon. Or a warship. But the only difficulty in obtaining them was coming up with the funds.

It is satirical. One would not keep their cannon upstairs in their house. It would be proudly displayed in the front yard.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

And yet, there's not a single automatic in the story, while his oldy-timey weaponry shreds the invaders (the ruffians are probably ICE judging by recent events). A better argument for grapeshot, forsooth.

And panties, at a minimum. Maybe add striped thigh-highs for maximum intimidation

[–] Horsecook@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 hours ago

It’s a roughly 15 year old satirical piece that references common anti-gun tropes that would be familiar to an American firearm enthusiast.

That the 2A only protects period firearms, that intermediate caliber rifles are high powered, the inclusion of bayonet lugs in assault weapons bans, bans on modern large caliber firearms and cannons, claims that hollow point bullets are inhumane, that modern firearms are excessively dangerous, et cetera.

[–] sramder@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Word. Well I certainly wasn’t going to 4chan for anything… thank you for reminding me that there was in fact a worst shit hole 😝

[–] scintilla@crust.piefed.social 1 points 6 hours ago

It really is such a shame how influential 4chan is/was

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 23 points 9 hours ago

Wait for the cops to arrive? I thought those were the cops. Are there other ruffians who routinely break into people's houses in the middle of the night?

[–] new_world_odor@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

So, posting a (gold classic) copypasta and adding an extra sentence makes a "best of lemmy" post, apparently. Cool cool cool. Sure glad I left reddit's inane bullshit behind.

[–] And009@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 13 minutes ago

Tis creativity.

[–] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 6 points 8 hours ago

This copypasta came from 4chan before Lemmy ever existed.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 7 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

IIRC, pajamas were popularized during WWII because of air raids and having to possibly get up and go to a building bomb shelter in there middle of the night. Also works for earthquake prone areas and homes with ghosts.

[–] Horsecook@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

You’re thinking of siren suits. Pajamas were already long in use, but were seen as indoors-only clothing.

[–] lemming@anarchist.nexus 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Otherwise Ebenezer Scrooge would have to spend that whole trip with the ghosts with his dick out.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 hours ago

It's flopping around under his long nightshirt

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Aren't they still indoors-only clothing? Right? Right?!

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 hours ago

Pajamas are appropriate at emergency shelters and on Pajama Day.

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 4 points 8 hours ago

FYI Socket Bayonets were around in the days of the founding fathers, so ya coulda fixed bayonet right after loading.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

erect or flaccid?

[–] kboos1@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Aside from personal preference you shouldn't sleep in the nude because encase of emergency you may need to run out to render assistance to a family member at night and you don't want to traumatized your kids or grandma. Also people shed and sweat in their sleep so unless you are changing your bed coverings every couple of days then you'll be sleeping in you own filth, with pajamas at least the contamination will be kept to a minimum.

[–] moonshadow@slrpnk.net 2 points 8 hours ago

Grandma used to wipe my ass, won't be "traumatized" seeing it again. The kids only get dressed for town trips and and sheets get changed yearly. Smh @ city folks
