Yes, well it was going out of business and Sony bought it. Not surprising they don’t know what to do with it.

Also, it used to be illegal for studios to own movie theaters. But they just stopped enforcing that for some reason. 🤷‍♂️

How can you be so clueless about what makes your brand work.

Former Austinite here. Alamo Drafthouse essentially went out of business and got bought. This is Alamo Drafthouse in name only.

We had one in Omaha before Covid absolutely destroyed their big expansion and triggered the resulting sale. It was SO GOOD before that. Now it’s just a sad reminder of what once was.

Oh, shoot. I was hoping to catch something there next time I was in town to compare to the Texas and Des Moines markets' Flix Brewhouse. I only recently started going to theaters post-covid and am liking Flix.

It’s still pretty good, but the pre-shows lost much of their sparkle and creativity. The food went from really good to pretty good. Kind of like Panera - the food there is still decent, but it was better before private equity bought them up.

The company’s CEO, Michael Kustermann, announced a new policy where customers order food and drink on their phones,

Michael Kustermann should be fired, his compensation clawed back, and he should be barred from ever holding another decision making role for the rest of his life.

The page keeps returning an error for me. In case the site is glitching out for anyone else - archive link

As to the topic, I’ve never been to an Alamo Drafthouse (they don’t exist in my area), but wow, it sounds like they’re shooting themselves in the foot.
