"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

The mighty? Time has always been imperial propaganda. Worthless rag.

yep. TIME's person of the year in 1938 was Adolf Hitler

How do you go from Pi and Requiem for a Dream to............this?

This is like Beethoven following up the Ninth Symphony with Baby Shark.

Why does anybody grift? $$$.

But honestly, Requiem for a Dream was pretty bad in my opinion. It had no real depth, the characters didn't make much sense, it was just ooh, drugs bad basicly.

Any video AI generated makes me think of that LMAO song because no camera shot can get past 15 seconds.

SHOTS! shots, shots, shots, shots, shots
Shots, shots, shots, shots, shots
Shots, shots, shots, shots, shots
Everybody!

You can watch scenes of it on youtube and it is horrible. There is nothing historical accurate about it, the "sets" looks cheap and anachronistic, in fact anachronism pervades it through and through. I randomly forwarded to a scene where what was apparently Franklin and Jefferson are sitting and drinking whiskey from modern glass tumblers, their customes looks like someone poorly attempted to disguise modern clothing as 18th century outfits. The "acting" is atrocious with weird facial expressions, characters looking different in different scenes and so on.

I have no idea why they would use AI for this, when it would probably have been cheaper, and just as historically convincing, to use randos from the street and just film them with their phone right there and then.

Why any professional would voluntarily sign their name to this slop is beyond me. The guy must really have been in need of some hard cash.

Just fyi, what you're seeing on youtube is the entire thing. It's a series of very short episodes meant to be published throughout the year.

It’s listed on his IMDB. :(

Very disappointing if he even just lent his name to it.

Surely Darren Aronofsky didn't produce AI slop?

It's actually a really gritty and depressing movie about the people victimized by the founding enslavers... \s

Apparently he did.

I'm also surprised. This isn't a good look for him. I'm betting someone paid him to do this. I mean. More than normal payment for this kind of work.

Maybe people with a vested interest in AI.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

I’m betting someone paid him to do this.

Techbros trying to push creatives into normalizing it.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 5 points 15 hours ago

Yeah that's the part that gets to me.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 3 points 13 hours ago

And they can't even manage to actually post on time and "on this day".

Oh, the "year" of 1776 that involves them going back to the rampant corruption of the 1750s which paved the way for the post-war lack of corruption that was seen as so bizarre that it led to the revolution?
