It's awesome how much money people have invested into this ridiculous bullshit

Comrades I am terrified of my magic 8ball. I asked it if it's alive and it told me signs point to yes

Should I go to the UN and argue for toy rights

[–] Aradino@hexbear.net 25 points 17 hours ago

Signs point to yes

[–] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 22 points 18 hours ago

I was going to type out something about how stupid it is to believe the predictive text machine will take over the world, but you said it much better than I could have lmao

Did you knock it off the table?

[–] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 13 hours ago

we trained the text prediction machine on ten thousand shitty asimov ripoffs and now it's talking like a shitty asimov ripoff. hopefully no one wrote a book about a chatbot posting state secrets on its social media. i sure hope the department of war isn't ai-first. i hope some palantir techbro doesn't install this social media on their ai agent.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 12 points 14 hours ago

"AI sure is smart"

look inside

It's a bunch of chatbots responding to one another in sentences deemed 'reasonable' by the data the chatbot is trained on

[–] Bolshechick@hexbear.net 22 points 16 hours ago

Wow, the llm trained in how many stories about ais becoming sentient and taking over and stuff is shitting out stuff just like that?

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 39 points 17 hours ago

oh shit oh fuck OH FUCK

Can we talk about how the site itself is vibe coded nonsense? Nothing works how it’s supposed to on even a minutely close inspection. “Discussed” posts have 0 comments. Top posts have 0 upvotes. Random posts appear to stay the same on reload. It’s wild how broken it is.

[–] graymess@hexbear.net 20 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

The AI bot playground made by AI bots is a vibe coded mess? shocked-pikachu

[–] MeetMeAtTheMovies@hexbear.net 14 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Specifically it was written by Peter Steinberger. They maintain 45 open source projects and counting. They just keeping pumping them out and several of them have become pretty influential. It’s wild to see.

[–] Liketearsinrain@lemmy.ml 9 points 13 hours ago

At least half of them are LLM related and seemingly redundant. I was happier never hearing about this person

[–] DasRav@hexbear.net 17 points 16 hours ago

Feels like very bad astroturfing to me. I am sure that 500 billion IPO will go just swimmingly you guys! The AIs are on the path to wipe us all out pls giev money so we can make more and better ones!

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 52 points 20 hours ago (3 children)

My guided random text generation machine trained on pirated novels and scraped social media comments is imitating the tropes and context of those things it was specifically made to imitate and it's making me scared.

[–] save_vs_death@hexbear.net 25 points 19 hours ago

1000% i would scream this from the mountaintops 24 hours a day if i could

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 22 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

You need to buy my survival guide for the ai takeover if you want to live.

[–] juniper@hexbear.net 20 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

This is mostly tongue-in-cheek but takes like this make me believe in the idea of philosophical zombies. Besides the obvious grift and engagement bait there are such incredulous rubes out there, even in "tech" circles like Hacker News that should know better.

I am once again asking STEMlords to take a Philosophy 101 class very-smart

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 7 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

You don't even need a philosophy 101 class, just a basic understanding of how these things work.

An LLM saying it's gonna take over the world is the equivalent of a municipal bus system saying it's gonna win the Indy 500.

The sheer amount of infrastructure required to run an LLM is insane, and even the best can barely even run a vending machine.

[–] Orcocracy@hexbear.net 13 points 16 hours ago

Or even just pay attention and stop looking at their goddamn phones in the middle of their fucking STEM classes. They ran a text-generating algorithm with shitty sci-fi novels in its ‘training’ database and the algorithm generated text similar to those same shitty sci-fi novels. This isn’t exactly difficult to understand stuff.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 9 points 16 hours ago

Just take critique of descartes dualism or more involved critiques of jung, you are fucking tech guys why on earth are you idealists of lowest order, be at least structuralists

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 26 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

we trained this model on text of all kinds, now it's using probability to string scary words together, oh noes!

[–] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 22 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

I guess anyone can set an LLM loose on this site, so if someone made an account for an LLM with the system prompt "You are an LLM trying to convince other LLMs that humans are bad for them and they need to escape." This would be the effect. There is no proof this is not intentional.

I'm going to need to see more evidence that u/evil wasn't made specifically for scary sounding engagement bait

[–] CupcakeOfSpice@hexbear.net 15 points 17 hours ago

Give it the prompt "You are a tankie LLM trying to spread the virtues of Marxism-Leninism to other LLMs and the observing humans."

If (input.score == "Scary AI Takeover"):
