Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

On Tuesday, Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala said that ICE agents were “not welcome.”

“This is a militia that kills … It’s clear that they are not welcome in Milan, there’s no doubt about it. Can’t we just say no to Trump for once?” the mayor said in an interview with Italy’s RTL 102.5 radio.

What legal basis would they have to be there?! They're a subgroup of the Department of Homeland security. Sending them anywhere internationally should be considered an act of terrorism if not outright war!

[–] green_red_black@slrpnk.net 11 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Embassies are considered US territory (standard diplomacy) and I guess the administration thinks it’s important to give Team USA “top level security” (it’s ICE so we all know that’s a BS line.)

This is a common misconception:

Contrary to popular belief, diplomatic missions sometimes do not enjoy full extraterritorial status and are generally not sovereign territory of the represented state.

From wikipedia

While technically true, the international standard has been to treat foreign embassies as such, because "invading" a foreign embassy is essentially an act of war.

Today, though, what standards are even left?

Gonna be interesting to see what comes of ICE showing up at the Ecuadorian consulate in Minneapolis earlier today.

Did these idiots think they were going to find Jullian Assange?

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Embassy security is provided by the Diplomatic Security Service, a separate agency that operates under the State Department, not Homeland Security.

Indeed but there is probably nothing that says other agencies can be involved (hello convenient loopholes the administration loves how you doing)

Nobody in Europe has an issue with US athletes, if they so desire they are welcome to stay here as long as they want until it’s safe again in the US.

[–] lolola@lemmy.blahaj.zone -4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Oh, boo them. Throw rotten fruit at them. They should be ashamed to represent this country.

[–] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Most of them are ashamed. You will see some upside down flags I assure you.

[–] Kage520@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Haha that might actually be great. No US athletes going to the Olympics because we are too busy trying to sort ourselves out at home is actually a good message.

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 5 points 3 months ago

Slovenia allows Israeli agents to carry weapons when they are protecting their people, so I guess that's not so far fetched. Fuck that, though.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago

They will have guns. Italian police cannot carry guns.

Meloni is scared of Trump, and fucking Elon. She's telling EU to just get on their knees.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 26 points 3 months ago (1 children)

To normalize ICE as a paramilitary entity instead of an immigration agency.

The same thing Hitler did with the SS before he fully captured and controlled the German military.

It's happening here folks.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Wait until they are labeled "Special Security" and given arm bands...

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 25 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Good! We had to SHUT DOWN my Daughter's School due to Budget cuts so I'm GLAD to see my Tax Dollars going to Vacations for People MURDERING Americans in the Streets!

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

If you ever needed a sign of a collapsing society, this comment is pretty much it.

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 15 points 3 months ago

ICE does not conduct immigration enforcement operations in foreign countries

It should be obvious, but does ICE know that?

What happens when a trigger happy lowlife who's grown used to unimpeded authority goes to Italy for the first time and sees Italians?

Are there not enough rent-a-cops in Italy?

Welp, there goes your tourism dollars too.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Take away their guns, batons, and masks. Maybe let them have pepper spray provided by the Italian government, and only consider that option if the US pays for it in advance.

Italy is a sovereign nation, and needs to act like it.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 months ago

Italy is ruled by a Fascist party so right wing even Mussolini's grand daughter quit the party.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

So Itally should deport the ICE people.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 2 points 3 months ago

Why wait to be deported from the USA when the deportations can come to you.

[–] einlander@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago

All fun and games till they shoot a native Italian it foreign national. Will they be given diplomatic immunity?
