This is literally how abusers talk

[–] AdamEatsAss@lemmy.world 52 points 2 days ago

I don't want to invade Greenland baby. But you make me do it.

[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago

Makes sense. He is one.

I'm delighted that our Prime Minister clearly got under Trump's skin with his speech. He certainly didn't get his wits from America.

[–] Instigate@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I watched his whole speech and the Q&A afterwards a short time ago and, as an Australian, all I could think was that if I were Canadian I’d have been very proud to call him my PM. He has such a sensible approach to the idea that the world has irrevocably changed and that middle powers need to band together to stand up to bullies like the USA. He correctly highlighted that the current circumstances are frightening and challenging but has a clear vision for the path forward.

I, like many others, was concerned that an ex-banker and leader of two federal reserves would just tow the neoliberal line but he’s shown real courage and vision. I hope he continues to back up the rhetoric with action that’s both in the best interests of Canadians but also in the better interests of other middle power nations.

I think his open acknowledgment of the until-now taboo points that the “rules based international order” has intrinsically been significantly self-serving, and has consistently favored the global north over the global south, and has overall exacerbated global wealth inequality was pretty incisive and important as well. The facts have been fairly obvious for a while now, and he had the stones to call a spade a spade.

Freebies? Like, freeloaders? Like all of the people who don't get healthcare or medicine in the U.S. so they cross the border to get it from Canada?

[–] TheRealShadeSlimmy@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago

I don’t think the shots they’ve been giving him are working anymore 😐

Grateful for all of the new immigrants coming from USA who will work to make Canada even better ❤️

[–] shittydwarf@piefed.social 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When America sends its people, they're sending their best. They're sending people that have fewer problems and they're leaving their problems behind. They're bringing skills. They're bringing families. They're not rapists. And most, I assume are good people.

[–] Arancello@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago

Are you implying that the invading force will be grade 4 repeaters who cant spell, understand grammar or complete simple addition and subtraction?

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

I wish our immigrants came from more civilized countries though. /s

[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You know, I'm grateful.

Hitler lost his grip on reality, after he started the second world war.

Nazi germany had a terrifying amount of terrible, and competent, people on its side.

Trump's administration might be terrible... But competent?

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There are still a lot of competent people who continue to let themselves be used by the regime, particularly in the military.

[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Absolutely.

But this shit is falling apart a lot sooner than the nazi party did.

The Nazis were true zealots, while Trump is just a grifter, wrapped in so many lies there are no longer words he might spew that are capable of making sense to anyone paying attention. Additionally, a lot of people around him are in it for personal gain, not some sense of ideals.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

As an American, I would like to know what he thinks we have been giving them. Cause I can’t think of any.

[–] Danquebec@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 days ago (2 children)

He thinks a trade surplus for Canada means the US is subsidizing Canada.

I'm not even kidding.

[–] 7rokhym@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Which is also a complete lie. The 'surplus' is Canadian crude oil being imported by American oil companies, refined and then exported at high profit. Canada is actually getting screwed. It would be a trade deficit if the taps stopped, and is another example of how a US benefit of Free Trade is being misrepresented to the MAGA cult by the US regime. Once the investments are in place to repatriate oil processing, I expect Carnie will be discussing the need to turn off the taps. I am not sure if retrofitting old refineries would accelerate the process as it would take at least a decade to build from new. In any case, it would freak out the Koch family (one of the families that actually run the US), so I expect there is a full strategy being developed and played out.

[–] prex@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Yeah, the word 'thinks' has a very wide range of application doesn't it.

[–] ieGod@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Grief, mostly.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

We get a LOT of mail-order boner-pill ads on mid-evening television. And all our shooting deaths are with guns smuggled over the border. So there's that....

;-)

Just kidding. That one time America became the only country to activate article 5, word is all the yanks forced to land in our maritimes we're super nice.

[–] SirMaple__@lemmy.ca 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)
  • it is unfortunately a fake cover
  • i would LOVE if it was real
  • i do not expect orangeboi to understand that it is fake
  • i expect orangeboi et al will get big mad over it
[–] Janx@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

Did they even say 'thank you'!?

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Hahaha idiot. What ‘freebies’ could hope to make up for maple syrup and poutine?

Just wait till they’re gone. You fools!

[–] Elechicken@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That and the hydro that powers half the eastern seaboard...

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

Very true.

That’s nothing compared to the syrup, though.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

Yes, thank you for the flood of illegal guns which makes it shitty for responsible gun owners like myself.

[–] RIotingPacifist@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Everyone is laughing but isn't this how MLs talk about Western countries that benefit from US imperialism indirectly?
