Even the chill Americans can't help but invade Greenland

i wanna see they apologize to venezuela.

or brazil for trying to put a pro-us fascist in power.

or argentina for succeeding at it.

or maybe colombia, for threatening to kidnap their leader?

or mexico for all the bullshit?

maybe the entirety of the global south for starters...

why do usians only ever feel guilty about fucking with white european interests?

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

Check the color chart.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Well apparently we aren't supposed to apologize at all, since it's annoying

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 2 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

apologies are meaningless when it's just virtue signaling, and only for europeans. best case scenario is you help us stop your empire from hurting us further, like really this time.

[–] WaxRhetorical@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Stop apologising, start acting

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 0 points 21 hours ago

You think I'm not? I've been directly involved with an anti ice org since last year. I'm not going to apologize, I think it's bullshit what this government is doing, but I think it's shitty to get mad at people who try to express any sympathy or regret on the Internet.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Ironic that their nationalism fuels the fascism that they supposedly oppose.

People are so brainwashed that they're taking personal responsibility for the theft of Greenland.

Don't identify with and apologize for the state. Disassociate and resist.

That is the opposite position that the moderator in the post took. Their position was that, on a macro level, there is no distinction between an American who disagrees with the Government's actions but fails to stop it and the American government itself. Apologizing, to them, wasn't about accepting guilt for the government. It was about trying to dissociate yourself from the actions of which they still put on every American.

I think its as bullshit take to simplify all Americans to their government as it is for any other nation, but it's also bullshit to try virtue signal at greenlanders to rid yourself of the guilt of the government's actions. There is a middle ground here, and I don't think dissociation is the solution either, unless that dissociation comes with action. We all need to accept accountability and responsibility for the state of things as much as we have any influence over, and we all need to stop making it others problems.

Do these moderators think they have the right to moderate because they landed a boat on that subreddit hundreds of years ago?

[–] genericuser2000@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

C'mon guys, they totally couldn't see it coming. He only had his first term of insanity, then campaigned on being a dictator. So they brought him back. Can't blame the poor spineless American rubes after all.

So the Americans already invaded the Greenland subreddit and cosplayed Canadians?

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm on vacation and my buddy had someone ask if we're Canadian. It felt like a compliment.

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Did you lie, or did you feel filthy and disgusting having to tell them the truth lol.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

I wore my dirty scarlet letter. I'm not proud of it, but I'm not a liar. It always comes with the caveat that I'm also disgusted and hate everything that's happening. Every foreign person I've talked to has been understanding in that we have the same views and concerns. Rational people know that there are a lot of us that disagree and are protesting against the current regime, and we bond on that.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Most of them are apologizing to Iceland, or Green Bay, or whatever.

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 29 points 2 days ago

That's actually some uplifting news coming from reddit for a change.

[–] Voidian@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (4 children)

My sentiments exactly. Americans always find a way to make eeeverything about themselves. And then they're surprised to find Trump as their president. And then, instead of actually doing something about their miserable country, they will dominate every online space with their political shitshow. Most ironically it's usually accompanied with a significant amount of self-flagellation about what evil imperialists they are. A lot of it. They REALLY need you to see how badly THEY feel about being shitty (not that they'll take any real action about it). 0 self-awareness. Trump is just the pus-filled cap of an inflamed zit.

[–] DonAntonioMagino@feddit.nl 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We’re all living in America... Coca-Cola, sometimes war...

[–] verdi@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 3 points 1 day ago

It's just a tribute!

[–] PumaStoleMyBluff@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yes, the country with a population equivalent to the 8 highest population EU states is definitely homogenously made up of imperialists who are the same people hating on themselves.

[–] Voidian@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No, the imperialistic "I must dominate every space I find myself in" attitude is pretty ingrained in Americans, regardless of if they embrace it in themselves or not. Anything from "I must make everyone aware of how bad I feel about my terrible country" to "I must force every country and culture in the world to follow my value system" to just sucking the air out of any room they're in by making sure that they are the loudest and most visible person around. They come from a culture where everyone is trying to be the tallest poppy. Most of the world by varying degrees generally trims the tallest poppy. It's not without issues but I could write a hell of a rant on how the tall poppy thing has been painted in overly negative light thanks to American hyper-individualistic sensibilities worming their way into the general consciousness (and don't confuse me for a tankie, that's like cutting the whole field if one poppy grows too tall).

Maybe not all Americans go out with the intent to conquer. But very few Americans seem to actually ask themselves if maybe for FUCKING ONCE they could just shut the fuck up, sit quietly in the corner and give their attention to someone else. But no, even if magically all Americans took what I just said to heart, they'd FLOOD social media with posts about themselves sitting quietly in the corner. They'd make sure that everyone knows just how quiet and invisible they are. They would keep their mouth shut but paint a massive red circle and arrows on the wall behind them, and they'd definitely try to be better at it than the other guy. This is the American mentality.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 11 points 1 day ago

You're so fucking spot on. Every single fucking time USA does something evil (so constantly), there's a horde of americans flooding every single forum/social media/toilet stall, to cry about how much it hurts their feelings. Instead of just fucking off and letting people actually deal with it.

The danish subreddit used to be (probably still is, idk) flooded by americans making long ass posts every single time Trump opened his shit-filled mouth about the country, begging for fucking forgiveness, like this is in any way about them.

A virtual community to get banned from.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How many lemmings here got permabanned from reddit? I've gone through I lost count, at least 6 accounts there, I abandon them after a second violation with the 3 day ban. Usually quit for an extended period of time after out of anger. Time before this I found lemmy so trying to stay off more here. It's like with a new account you are fine, but once an account gets hot they find an excuse to violate you, not a valid excuse either, stuff no reasonable person would think is a violation.

[–] Virtvirt588@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Around 6 is the golden number. That's when people decide to quit.

[–] tgcoldrockn@lemmy.world 40 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dystopian For Profit Forums filled with Corpo-bots. It was cool for a few years though.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 6 points 2 days ago

I sailed there in my boat a few hundred years ago and then left again.
