Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

ICE says Victor Manuel Diaz died at the tent facility on Jan. 14. The 36-year-old from Nicaragua had been in custody since Jan. 6 when ICE says agents “encountered” him in Minneapolis and determined he was in the country illegally.

They found him unconscious and assumed it was a suicide. What a load of shit. People don't just drop unconscious and die on command. Which means they beat him and that lead to his death or they refused to give him medication for some chronic condition(insulin for example) or he died of exposure as they are kept in a tent in the middle of nowhere.

[–] cogman@lemmy.world 68 points 2 months ago

Yup, these are death camps. There's a reason they've illegally kept the doors closed to Democrat representatives.

[–] Yawweee877h444@lemmy.world 79 points 2 months ago

And they won't let anybody inspect the facilities. And a judge approved this.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 79 points 2 months ago (3 children)

There are conflicting reports about another death at the camp that ICE says was suicide. A detainee told the Associated Press that the man was in an altercation with staff when he died.

If they don't kill you on the street they can just kill you in the concentration camp. A judge ruled that they can prevent anyone inspecting the facilities, and another ruling allows them to stop providing medical care. The whole system is explicitly telling these thugs that they can kill anyone they want to with impunity, and they're enjoying their license to murder.

They will continue to do so, as this machine is getting too big to stop. Even if there is a blue wave in the midterms, what are the Democrats going to do? The DOJ, DHS, and the White House do not care about laws anymore, so how will this be resolved legislatively? That’s also assuming this blue wave is not just a flood of feckless cowards, which seems more likely.

If they're intent on killing us one way or another anyway, it doesn't seem like there's much incentive to go peacefully, huh?

Don't let the kidnappers take you to point B.

The federal government awarded the Virginia-based company Acquisitions Logics LLC $1.2 billion to operate the sprawling camp.

There's a long list of people that need prosecuted after all this...

But we can't forget all the people working for these private prisons, especially the c-suite and investors, not just the boots on the ground.

Take all that money back, and throw all the leaders in prison for human rights abuses.

There's no more rules shirt brothers, we can just do the right thing even if a law doesn't explicitly say we can do it. Well never win a class war by following rules the other side ignores.

[–] sexy_peach@feddit.org 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Who will prosecute the people in this scenario? There is no end in sight imo

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The next government...

Only the neoliberal wing obstructed holding people accountable last time. Now they don't control the DNC, so they can't use the "victory fund" to control state parties during the presidential primary or House/Senate rep's votes thru threats of bankrupting state parties.

Like, there's a shit ton to be optimistic about these days, you just won't hear about it on anything a billionaire owns, they want people turned off from the Dem party since they lost control.

there’s a shit ton to be optimistic about these days

Like I am not in the US and generally this is correct, but domestic politics specifically in the US I fear is going to get even worse.

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 4 points 2 months ago

I'm in the US, I expect it to get a lot worse before it will get any better.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 4 points 2 months ago

It will get worse for everyone if we don't learn, demand better and embody better ourselves. This isn't going to be top down. It has to be bottom up.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Oh yeah, the next year shit will get much worse...

But "it's always darkest before the dawn" is a saying for a reason. It's a completely different vibe then when Biden was going into office and everyone knew it was just a brief respite at best.

The last time we were in this "good" of a position was the great depression, but that got us FDR.

So on the timeline of a decade, I'm optimistic. Because if I only thought on short timeline these days I'd be depressed as fuck, which is why oligarch owned media wants everyone thinking on short timelines.

The next government...

Yeah, look how that turned out for those Jan 6 thugs...

Beyond the obvious reason, this sign always pissed me off.

What's with the huge bump under MACHT? It's dumb. It looks like shit. It should have been one big arch, not this stupid rollercoaster bullshit. It's an architectural atrocity. Stupid fuckin Nazis and their shitty art

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Perhaps you prefer Buchenwald's?

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

"I prefer Buchenwald" is a statement I never thought I'd think but yes that is much better design-wise lol

Still bad but it doesn't piss me off like that hilly macht

[–] KinglyWeevil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 months ago

Some stupid shit like they'd already submitted a flat design to fab when they find out that certain work trucks actually have a center horn mounted to the top of the cab that brings the height from 5 meters to 5.25 meters so they cut in a gap, add some bends and weld the letters back on.

Custody

More like in captivity, while being held hostage or while being imprisoned.

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 months ago

I have to wonder just how many serial killers are on ICE payroll, 'cause what an easy way to find victims.
