Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an invitation to join the U.S.′ “Board of Peace” for Gaza, the Kremlin said Monday.

Surely history will remember this guy as the dumbest president

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 39 points 3 weeks ago

He's trying to take the whole world with him and it doesn't seem like anyone is going to even try to stop him.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 26 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

We said that about Dubya.

sigh. Good times, good times.

[–] wurstgulasch3000@feddit.org 13 points 3 weeks ago

He out-dumbed dubya within the first week of his first presidency

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 6 points 3 weeks ago

In before Mike Johnson refuses to allow any discussion on this and Jeffries and Schumer write a very strongly worded letter.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

So... The Russians, that he is so desperate to defend against, that he wants to invade an ally in order to make sure he is safe from.. is now invited to join a board that promotes the opposite of what he's doing... 👌

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

That board is going to quietly enable the genocide to continue while enabling and shielding Israel from criticism

[–] hellfire103@lemmy.ca 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Real "Ministry of Love" shit right there

Blair and Rubio named on senior executive of Gaza 'Board of Peace'
The former UK prime minister and US secretary of state will sit on the "founding executive board", the White House says

I don't get it. I suppose it's from 1984; what was minilove and how does it relate to the headline?

[–] Exusia@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

In 1984, it is revealed that the "ministries of" are not ironic nor accidental - they did not become twisted versions of their namesakes. They are so named to intentionally destroy the thing they are named after.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

and how does it relate to the headline?

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Seems that the commenter suggests that calling it ‘board of peace’ is disingenuous.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 2 points 3 weeks ago

Now I get it. I guess I didn't see the most obvious there.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

What a fuckin' Monday, huh?

[–] GreenBeanMachine@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

I'd bet that no sane country will join and this will become a dictator club. Trump, Putin, Kim, Milei, Netenyahu

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 12 points 3 weeks ago

I think that's the idea. Also I heard that the joining fee is $1bn. He just can't stop grifting.

[–] ideonek@piefed.social 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If Trump was a generically engenired sleeper agent tube-breaded in soviet laboratory to be launched as a perfect sobotage of western civilization, he couldn't done any "better" than this guy is doing.

[–] oppy1984 5 points 3 weeks ago

It's been a while since I saw the interview but Malcom Nance said something along the lines of, I'm not saying trump is a Russian asset, but he sure is doing everything a Russian asset would do.

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

What are the chances Putin has $1b to spend tho

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

That's almlost 78bn rubels. You could send many soldiers to their death for that!

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

To cut American support for Ukraine? Worth it imho

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

He has the bubba picture

Gotta lovehate that picture. Apparently it's real:

BTW while Putin looks better here, physically, that does not mean that he is better than Trump in any way.

STOP SUFFERING NAZIS!

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

and he never mentions gaza in his communications about it - we (media/public) do. heavily implying he wants a “new UN” and to be its leader.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

They’re going to profiteer off the gaza rebuild while enabling the genocide to continue while shielding Israel from any criticism or accountability

[–] limelight79@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Putin probably has to wait to stop laughing before he can do anything.

[–] MantisToboggon@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Like a dick!

My prediction: Russia will join the "Board", Trump will pressure Ukraine and the Europeans they are against peace because they are not joining. Then Ukraine will join, because they have no other option than accepting this straw, as they don't want US as enemies. Then, Europeans will debate what to do, but in the end they will give in, as their parallel push for peace is not heard neither in Russia or the the US. I know it's sad, but I think this board of peace is not just stupid, but also pretty strategic.

[–] Skunk@feddit.fr 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

My prediction: This board will die before it can exist. EU will give the middle finger to Trump and befriend the whole world, he'll trow a tantrum and send soldiers in Greenland. Those accepting to go will get their ass whooped by better equipped and trained for arctic warfare EU soldiers (they can do a metric shit ton of damage in the arctic, probably not in another environment against the US. But choosing the arctic as a first battleground is a huge tactical mistake against Norway/Finland/Sweden/Denmark/France/UK/Netherlands as they have specialized troops and materials for those environment, the US as way less of them).

This will end NATO as we know it and be the start of WW3. But this WW3 will last only a few weeks as most US soldiers won't fight against allies and will therefore rebel, do a coup or something while the US population will finally say stop that shit. It might end up in a civil war there, Trump and puppets will probably get shot by soldiers from California, but the rest of the world will be at peace and do business as usual while the American empire disappear in flame.

Russia won't change, they can't do shit anyway. Europe will have troops in Ukraine until it's a stalemate peace giving 100% of Ukraine territory back, but Russia won't change. China will be a friendly business partner, they might get cocky with Taiwan but they won't attack any other country.

Reading that was an emotional roller coaster lol
