Why does it pretend to go down to zero, when there are still 17 officially UN recognized colonies? These are still left on the list of the "special committee for decolonization". Not to mention all the depended vasall states, comprador regimes etc. Also, where are all the US colonies?

[–] Sebrof@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago

All that "bad stuff" is part of the past. It's called history and it has recently magically ended. Countries don't have colonies now, especially the US! We aren't some kingdom. God's in his heaven, all is right with the world

/s just in case lol

It's pretty cool that Simón Bolívar can actually be spotted in the historical timeline.

Not labeling axis is liberalism

I wonder why 1945-1960 has given us such sharp decolonization thinkin-lenin.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

The west, being the most mature and virtuous of peoples, realised that colonisation is bad and so they decided to just stop doing it anymore out of the goodness of their hearts.

(I joke, but that's literally how it was taught to me in school)

And congrats to the lemmy instance

Thanks. You know, a happy coincidence lemmy.encryptionin.space spells out les.

I do think I have to figure out how to port some of hexbears changes to my instance, the sorting algo is better on hexbear.

It's fitting that it takes the shape of a butt plug

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That largely comes down to an aesthetical preference by whoever made that chart.

"Number of colonisations over time"

What does that mean?

That post war decolonization looks like extra colonization

The universe has a fucked up sense of humour. What being all encompassing does to a motherfucker

[–] Xavienth@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why didn't they just stack the areas normally, why is does it go above and below the x axis??

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

There's also no units. I'm guessing the shape is meant to give more visual space? If they were stacked, it would be pretty cramped.
