Donald Trump warned Republican members of Congress on Tuesday that if they don't win in this year's midterms, then he will "get impeached."

"You got to win the midterms because if we don't win the midterms, it's just going to be -- I mean, they'll find a reason to impeach me. I'll get impeached," the president said.

Trump was impeached two times during his first term. In 2019, he was impeached on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress for allegedly pressuring Ukraine's president to interfere in the 2020 election. The second impeachment came during his final days in office after the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, with lawmakers charging him with incitement of insurrection. Trump was acquitted in the Senate both times.

He's setting the expectation that if the Democrats do gain power after the midterms, then even if they rightfully impeach him his base will view it as politically motivated.

He's done this type of thing before. Doesn't surprise me.

[–] darkdemize@sh.itjust.works 57 points 3 months ago (1 children)

And why not? It worked out great for him with denying the 2020 election results. The 2024 election was suspicious as fuck, but no one dared question the results or demand a recount, lest they be accused of doing the same thing he and his followers did 4 years prior.

[–] Australis13@fedia.io 19 points 3 months ago

Of course. The technique works for him most of the time, too, which is why he keeps doing it.

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I think you're looking at it way too deeply.

He doesn't care about processes or democracy or representation. He just knows he has to be POTUS.

Yeah, because he should be impeached, removed and thrown in prison.

And he fucking knows it.

Don't threaten me with a good time.

[–] karashta@piefed.social 59 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Forget impeachment. I want to see his head roll on live TV with the rest of these traitors

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 19 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Too kind. I want to see a livestream of him spending the rest of his years in prison.

Put him in gen pop and make sure everyone knows he raped children

he fucked with the post office. there's only one punishment fitting. drawing, quartering, feeding to pigs, burning the pigs, dancing on the ashes, distributing the ashes for display in every post office as a warning to those who might dare fuck with the post office again.

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 47 points 3 months ago

"Ya'll nazis better rig some elections or else the grift ends and the good christofascist times are over"

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 47 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Why is he making popular democratic campaign promises?

Did he switch sides?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 24 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I mean, why does anyone think impeachment means anything? He's already been impeached twice in his first term. Didn't change his behavior in the slightest, because the Senate refused to convict and the next President refused to prosecute him for his crimes while in office.

"Oh no! The House will do another Kabuki Theater in between rubber stamping all my demands for an increased police state. How horrible!"

What a fucking joke.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

Petition to change it to Bukkake Theatre because well that's what it feels like.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

His ratings aren't matching Stranger Things and he's jealous

I prefer conviction and removal beyond impeachment so any additional criminal proceedings and continue and place him behind bars.

[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 22 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I prefer we break out the guillotine.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Too fancy. Ever seen the film Midsommar? I want the old people cliff scene, just no mercy hammer.

He won't get impeached. It's been well past time we start using that second amendment so many love to go on and on about, but never actually take advantage of.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 42 points 3 months ago (2 children)

He should have been imprisoned after January 6th. He should have been imprisoned for stealing documents. He should have been imprisoned for being in the Epstein files. Yet here we are, America baby!

[–] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

He should have been in prison decades earlier for fraud. But here we are. Trump is a metastasized tumor of the cancer that is the billionaire class.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (2 children)

i know someone who is in prison for life for less fraud than krasnov has committed. the injustice infuriates me (not that my acquaintance is in prison, long story, that krasnov is not)

At worse he will be impeached but there will be no effort to remove, meaning absolutely nothing

Like it means anything when he's been impeached twice now. As a reminder, it's a trial to see if there is enough evidence for the real trial. The system is broken and relies on pinky promises to not be a cunt.

Truth, but unless there are 60 votes in the Senate, nothing will happen and unless there are 67 votes in the Senate, it will be the same as the last 2 times.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 21 points 3 months ago (2 children)

If you don't want to be impeached, then stop committing impeachable offenses !

[–] webp@mander.xyz 8 points 3 months ago

Far, far too late.

Donald Trump warned Republican members of Congress on Tuesday that if they don’t win in this year’s midterms, then he will “get impeached.”

He's not wrong.

[–] ristoril_zip@lemmy.zip 16 points 3 months ago

Honestly that's all a Democratic House should do from the time they take over until Nov 2028.

Just submit articles of impeachment & hold hearings on them.

As much as Trump's shit has become "normal" due to the flood the zone strategy, this isn't actually normal on global order time scales. We can show the world that the party of loyal opposition is ready to govern, and why.

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago

"Find a reason." Nah, we'll pick from the many, many reasons you've already given us.

[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Oh, that's good because it's literally a call for sponsorship. He's running out of money

[–] Rubanski@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 3 months ago

I doubt after all his crypto rug pulling that the runs out of money soon. He just wants more free money

[–] uberfreeza@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I don't believe the democrats have enough of a spine to do that. I would expect them to instead say, "Oh, well he can't be president again, so no point in that when it can cost us our real constituents, the corporations that bribe us to do nothing."

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They impeached him twice already. The 2/3 of the Senate conviction is another thing entirely.

[–] uberfreeza@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, but even if democrats had 2/3+, enough will cave to make it fail again. I have no hope or trust in them. I'd like them to, and it would be great if it worked, but I have no hopes.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

They're never getting 2/3+ even if Trump eats a baby live on television. It's a cult.

I didn’t expect him to start campaigning for the Democrats.

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure many Republicans want him impeached by now as well.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

If they do they sure have a funny way of expressing their desire.
