==========

Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

It's not the "having children" part the jedi forbid, it's the growing of attachments that distracts from the light side of the force and tempts people to justify the small atrocities they would commit to protect the ones they love that grow to bigger atrocities.

So "hit it and quit it" is the jedi way. Got it.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

Jedis are whores. Sith are (whip) loving parents.

One theory for awhile, before disney fumbled the ball on Rey's origin...was that she was Obi-wan's Granddaughter and that snoke was Plagueis...but because disney sucks, we didn't get to have any fun

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I really wanted her to be the daughter of Kit Fisto

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't think it works like that, but don't let that keep you from dreaming

tell me you dont see the resemble

Snoke being Plagueis would have broken the entire Chosen One Prophecy just as much as the return of Palpatine did. Having Snoke being from a new dark side order that wasn't the Sith was one of the better things the sequels did.

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

one thing to bare in mind is that Plagueis was successful in his goal to have everlasting life. He figured out how to reverse his aging back to his prime and how to rapidly re-generate from injuries. He even figured out how to use the force to just instantly kill his enemies

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to believe he was expecting palps to kill him soon and would have some sort of contingency plan to go into hiding for awhile and gather up a power base to fight his old apprentice. And then waited for the empire his apprentice created to fall before trying to take over the galaxy with the power base he built up

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

... But Snoke was a puppet of Palpatine. Sheev had some backup clones to replace him with just in case

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That was a retcon that Abrams introduced at the last minute.

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I'm not sure you can have a recon when there was no overarching story.

Also, Im not really sure where the third movie was supposed to go anyways. There wasn't really any "Resistance" left and Ben's goal was to "rule the galaxy" which is kinda open-ended.

[–] justdaveisfine@piefed.social 13 points 4 days ago

For awhile I was weirdly confident the whole mirror vision thing was revealing she was actually a clone.

I was pretty disappointed at the actual reveal.

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I don't think making her yet another dynasty would fix the Sequel series in any way.

There weren't a whole lot of jedi to make a new generation of jedi after order 66

what really fucked starwars is the people disney put in charge of it

everyone involved with the disney stuff can't stop inserting all their own psychosis and narcissism into it and it ruined starwars. They want the twilight and 50 shades audience, but they're not going to get that if they work with starwars, so the audience they have hates it, rightfully so, because it's not real starwars

hiring actual starwars fans, who read all the books and comics and played all the games from before disney would massively improve starwars, re-canonize the EU of starwars and just make 1 to 1 recreations of the scenes from the books and comics. No real world politics crammed into it, just a fantasy sci-fi WW2 in space ...because that's what made it successful don't try to fix what isn't broken

if they just did that, starwars would've been disney's most profitable franchise, but they kept hiring all the worst possible people to work with that material instead

There weren’t a whole lot of jedi to make a new generation of jedi after order 66

Totally irrelevant. Force sensitivity is largely random and Jedi almost never have kids anyway.

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

from what I understand, force-sensitive children were hunted down and killed once the empire took over, if they were old enough, the empire would try to make them inquisitors, where many of them would die from the training, a lot of the training was fights to the death to see which new recruits were the strongest. and of course anyone who wasn't evil enough was killed

[–] jellyfishhunter@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Isn't it profitable nonetheless? Not that I like it, but the Disney sequels are the top grossing movies of the franchise (if you ignore inflation).

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 0 points 3 days ago

Are they really? I guess disney put a lot of money behind them, but I heard the profit they made wasn't so good

It's a symptom. If they had actually considered things like this then it might have turned out a lot better.

If anyone in the Jedi had been willing to just place Anakin on reserve duty and let him and Padme live somewhere peacefully, the whole saga would be different. Like, "Okay, so internally, you're a Jedi Knight. You don't have the authority to speak or act on behalf of the council, because you shouldn't be gallivanting about anyway. Go be a dad, and bring balance to your own mind - then we'll work on the Force."

[–] SlinkyBlack@lemmy.world 31 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There were plenty of Jedi that retired to start families, the issue with Anakin was that he was trying to keep it secret. If the council had known, they would have worked it out, but he didnt tell them.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 27 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yoda and Ki Adi Mundi really should have put Anakin into a youth program under a different master and made Obi-Wan stay a padawan for longer.

[–] helpImTrappedOnline@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago (2 children)

But that would require wisdom. This is the same console that didn't understand what balancing the force meant. 10,000 v 2, hmm whats gonna happen if we balance that out?

They should have sent that boy on his way home, hopes and dreams crushed. If they want to be extra safe, have an unfortunate air lock incident on the flight back.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

According to Lucas himself balancing the force was just getting rid of the dark Jedi and sith. Had nothing to do with numbers, just getting rid of the dark side.

[–] helpImTrappedOnline@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes perfectly balanced. Ying without the Yang.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I didn't say it was clever; this is Lucas and he is not in any way subtle. Convoluted at times but not subtle. So yeah the good guys destroying the bad guys and that being the end of it tracks pretty well. In fact unless it's a Disney retcon the whole idea of balancing the force by equalizing light and dark force users was never taken seriously by the fandom since it makes no sense and disregards all non Jedi/sith force users. One of the few ideas from the sequels that was decent is that getting rid of both Jedi and sith, eliminating rigid doctrine and just letting force users use the force on their own is what brings balance, which I guess is the canon take? Anyway if the prophecy was about numbers of sith and Jedi Anakin fulfilled that prophecy right before Yoda died, assuming Yoda and Luke were the last living Jedi. But it all falls apart with Jedi in hiding. Basically none of it makes sense.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 7 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Yoda knew better. It was all Qui-Gon's fault.

[–] helpImTrappedOnline@lemmy.world 19 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

They listened to the guy who bet everything on a kid winning a pod race to get some spaceship parts, and worse, he brought Jar Jar back with him.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Bringing Jar Jar back should have had Qui-Gon removed from the order.

Bad opinion. The whole downfall of the Jedi came about because they alienated the chosen one and were hypocrites blinded by their own high minded bullshit. Yoda et al. taught the jedi equivalent of abstinence only sex but for feelings. Works great until someone fails to keep it in their pants and now you have no backup plan to deal with natural consequences of biology. Add to it that the guy is the most naturally gifted force user the galaxy has ever seen and is being actively groomed by space Hitler while the counsel asks him to keep talking to him to see what this whole fire in the Reichstag is about. Like Jesus Christ just teach him to be emotionally stable instead of emotionally repressed and maybe his outbursts tone down a notch. As much as he's not guilt free if we are tossing Anakin to a new master I vote Windu. Or a more honest Obi Wan.

Windu dabbled too much in the Dark Side to take on a padawan safely by the time he'd moved to working on developing Form VII, which required use of the Dark Side as a weapon. Same with Yoda, who used Force Lightning.

I'd suggest instead that Obi-Wan be handed to Ki Adi Mundi, and Anakin (if he's trained at all), be handed off to Kit Fisto.

[–] TheDoozer@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

Anakin wouldn't have accepted that, and Palpatine would have made sure that Anakin saw it as an insult.
