I recently saw someone creating a bingo chart for 2025 so I decided to create one for 2026 (image of this post). What are your predictions for 2026?

You don't really want stuff on a bingo board that's framed like "this doesn't happen", like "US will not pass a law for real AI safety". On this board you have 3 things that would only ever be marked off on the 1/1/27. That's not good design.

[–] Mesa@programming.dev 2 points 3 days ago

The board lacks general scalability.

[–] VoxAliorum@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

My post is not a classical bingo - not a race to bingo first. Bingo is just the template that holds the predictions. I agree in general though.

I had to look up 'enhanced games'

Back in the day, someone suggested that people should read a lot of science fiction books so they'd be ready for the changes the future would bring.

I should have read no science fiction, because I am constantly being disappointed by what people decide to do with tech.

[–] kn0wmad1c@programming.dev 30 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I had to look it up too.

I was thinking "who the fuck thinks it's a good idea to run an Olympics-style sporting event that encourages PED use?" until I got to this part in the article:

"...with backing by Peter Thiel and Donald Trump Jr...."

Oh, okay, that makes sense. It's just backed by two of the worst people on the planet. Honestly, they're probably hoping to see people die in these games.

They probably took Squid Game as a fun suggestion.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 8 points 4 days ago

Some Onion-style editorial suggested referring to murdered school children as 'patriot angels' because they died defending the 2A. Charlie Kirk said pretty much the same thing with no irony.

Free space: US Starts a War with Venezuela

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 30 points 4 days ago

A Public US Person Gets Shot belongs in the FREE SPACE box, because it’s a given.

[–] Opisek@piefed.blahaj.zone 42 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There are way too many negative fields, i.e. "XYZ does NOT happen". You have to wait until 2027 to be able to cross them off.

[–] VoxAliorum@lemmy.ml 23 points 4 days ago

Waiting for 2027 and then evaluating was the plan. I don't see that as a problem. It's not a real bingo chart so I don't have to finish fast.

I think this one works just as well despite being 3 years old.

The USA starts a war with Venezuela, killing innocent people! I said couple ago and it's already happening.

[–] VoxAliorum@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

yea that was too easy. I predicted China making a move on Taiwan as a response to that because USA has no argument anymore.

Democrats do not pass electoral reform in the states they control and then scream bloody murder about the spoiler effect that comes along with the voting system they refuse to replace.

Electoral Reform Videos

First Past The Post voting (What most states use now)

Videos on alternative electoral systems

STAR voting

Alternative vote

Ranked Choice voting

Range Voting

Single Transferable Vote

Mixed Member Proportional representation

I really hope China stops fucking around with Taiwan. (am Taiwanese)

[–] VoxAliorum@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I am not Taiwanese, but I have the same hope. However, if Trump gets away with Venezuela and Putin with Ukrain, I see no reason why China would not follow through with their threats. Luckily, I think Taiwan more ready to fight back than Venezuela.

Thanks! Hope it'll turn out fine

  • Yet another racism scandal in the Finnish parliament, PM Petteri Orpo gets to clean the mess again
  • Still no peace deal in Ukraine
  • Yet another impeachment attempt on Trump that goes as well as the previous ones
  • Some AAA game company releases a big-budget title that turns out to be a complete buggy mess (like MindsEye)
  • Some Big Tech social media platform falls victim to enshittification, leading to a refugee wave to the Fediverse
  • The civil war among Republicans continues, maybe leads into abandoning Trump?

Well, my predictions are much more personal, so they really shouldn't have major consequences for others.

I'm predicting, assuming I do end up going to an anime convention with a college club I'm in, that I might have a partial fursuit by then, even if it's just a premade that's probably only made whenever the maker receives an order off their etsy shop. It's either that or, depending on a few things, gonna end up being a used one from a site I can't remember the name of, if I can find a partial that fits me. Lots of ifs.

That, and that I finish the first 4 chapters of a Summer Camp Island fanfiction I am rewriting. The original was all over the place, so I didn't get very far. Lots of bad writing and terrible stereotypes. I'm in the middle of working on the 2nd chapter ( chapter 1 and a chapter not based on any episode is complete ) and it's already feeling like I won't even finish that any time soon.

Gotta set obtainable predictions, which is why I have the second prediction.

Trump does something stupid.

Nah. Too easy.

Trump is no longer in office. Death, mental incapacity, whatever. There. That’s my guess.

"Germany's far right receives more votes" is already the free space.

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

To be fair they also put "Public American figure gets shot" which is pretty much a guarentee
