My (now ex) partner tried to throw my work laptop into traffic and put me through an entire day of physical and emotional abuse.

I walked home on xmas day around 10pm after managing to trick them into letting me leave.

I dont know how to feel, im safe and we're never talking again but yeah, its hard.

I was doing fuck all in my dorm as usual

Better than studying

It was lovely. I am still recovering from all the food I had.

The kids loved their presents, the dinner I had cooked was just as I wanted it to be. I spent most of the evening assembling a toy construction crane for our youngest kid. My mother-in-law was less toxic than usual and her attempts at outshining my dinner failed.

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 6 days ago

Snowed like crazy and it was cold as hell but I slayed at the party games. My niece and nephew loved their gifts but they did get into a few toddler fist fights which I had to break up. The food was also fantastic and I brought home a large casserole dish full of leftovers.

Some of my family were annoying but that’s normal coming from those specific individuals, I just had to do my best to ignore them. It wasn’t even political, just them arguing and also poking fun at me because it’s easy.

Its over. I'm in Christmas now. I'm in the southern hemisphere so we are balls deep into summer but it is literally 10 degrees C. We had to have a heater on over night. Climate change is fucking stupid.

[–] Maeve1@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

OMG! It was a bit less than 23° here.

I visited my ex neighbor in a care facility, today, then took my fur baby for a walk, stopping to check on an elderly neighbor on my way home. They were outside enjoying the weather and their intended early dinner had gotten cold, so I reheated it for them and joined them, white grits and chicken fried mechanically separated, pressed beef or pork, hard to say, followed by a doughnut and nutritional drink. My guts are rebelling, lol. I planned on a salad at home but it's Christmas Eve, and she asked, so I didn't want to be rude. Washed up and came home and had an orange to hopefully get the fermentation and good gut bacteria on track, acv shot wasn't sounding great.

New Year's Day will usher in overnight temps freezing and below at night, about -8 was the lowest I can see for now, probably in time for my next client, but I'm past ready for them!

White Christmas?! Any accumulation? Hope you stay safe, comrade.

[–] ryepunk@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's cold as balls here so I'd gladly send you the cold and snow if anyone wants their Christmas to be white. Negative 18 out now, probably be around negative ten for most of the week.

First time with my partner for Christmas so it's different and I don't really want to spend time with family, but tragically I have to. I'm burned out from retail work and just want the holidays over so I can have normal routine return.

[–] SigmaStalin@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 5 days ago

I love the cold dude send me some as well its warm here

[–] 1333481@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Pretty warm compared to previous days where I'm at, 35°F. One of my mice just died though :(

[–] SigmaStalin@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (3 children)

Mouse pic now! (If you feel comfortable)

sorry for your mouse

[–] 1333481@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Thank you! Here is a pic of my original mice. One passed away before the other, and I also have two other smaller gray mice, of which I don't have a great picture.

Just got to my parents' house as they were leaving for church. They already gave me the best Christmas present, which was covering my gifts to the kids and in-laws because I'm broke as helllll.

[–] CurseAvoider@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Hit by a very debilitating episode since yesterday 😩 I'm not sure if it's because I stopped the tricyclics or my body just decided it wanted to throw a fit but here it is. Got prescribed stronger antiemetics to try but I haven't ordered them yet (insurance bullshit) and I could go get them on the 26 when stores open but they will have to order it so I'll only get it on the 27. I have a family dinner and drive on the 26 lol.

Aside from that I'm just managing one day at a time I guess.

[–] Maeve1@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

So sorry, comrade, hopefully you can find a bit of balance until then!

[–] CurseAvoider@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Thank you for your kind words 🙌 I'll try to take it easy until then but it's not easy with a family that doesn't really seem to remember that I'm disabled and has never once asked me about what my triggers are or how I manage with them. People incl family just assume what you can and can't do and what you need or don't need for you when they could just ask "Do you know your triggers, and how do you usually deal with them?"

The day I dread most is the 26th but it's at my grandma's house so I still want to go lol.

[–] Maeve1@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 6 days ago

People incl family just assume what you can and can’t do and what you need or don’t need for you when they could just ask

Oh believe me, I am well aware

“Do you know your triggers, and how do you usually deal with them?

Yeah, that's not a question I will answer from my family, because then they will be the stage upon which tap dancing in stilletto heels commences. Tomorrow I am giving myself the gift of peace by not going home; and my personality disordered parent the gift of a different target.

It was good! Kids got a lot of great stuff from my parents and siblings. Chatted with a relative I haven't had a long conversation with in over a year. Wish we had more time to chat. He's a progressive liberal so our politics chats are always fun. Its never abrasive. All in good fun. I had to laugh though. I told him about the instance I operate (were also both tech nerds) and my goals with it. He asked me at some point "Don't you want to read news that challenges your world view?" And this is something you hear online from liberals but the first anyone has said it to me in person. I simply told him "Funny you say that because I had the same world view for most of my life, and over the last decade I have been reading stuff that challenged my world view enough that I changed it." We were then roped into a board game so the conversation ended. Then we had to leave since it was getting to late for the kids.

I have to try and make time to see him more this year.

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

He asked me at some point "Don't you want to read news that challenges your world view?"

The funny thing is, we actually post more articles from mainstream media sources here, both liberal and conservative, than we do communist ones.

We have a clear ideological orientation, but the news sources we draw from are incredibly varied. You see articles from American mainstream media, British, German, French MSM, Russian media, Chinese media, and that's on top of whatever "alternative" media we also look at.

I don't think we reject any source as long as there is something of value to be gained from reading it, even if it's just to see how our ideological enemies think.

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago

Right that's very true! The Economist, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, all mixed in amongst the other sources. Even still, many of the 'alternative' sources are synthesizing those sources to paint a broader picture not being discussed by the individual publications. Geopolitical Economic Report is a prime example here. You almost have to in order to see the parts being left out.

I’m tired of leftists taking Ls and I wished it got significantly worse for right wingers and I’m starting to hate reddit and removed for rule 3 violation because moderators would rather prefer that the problem didn't exist than do anything to meaningful address it so not good

We had snow all through December, but right here at the end it all melted lol

[–] Jin008@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 6 days ago

First year of uni abroad, lonely and tired

[–] Doubledee@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago

Work was disorganized and a pain to catch up on but that's how the supervisors prefer to run the unit so what can you do. I got a cheap pizza earlier and the day and some beer to share with the neighbors before I came to my shift.

My family is off visiting other relatives so even though I'm stuck working it doesn't feel as bad as it would having to go in during the middle of festivities and leave them all. Silver linings etc.

[–] xenautika@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 6 days ago

Not bad, will have a white christmas with snow in forecast (altho its been warm here too and it may just rain insread)

I took a pet sitting gig, mostly alone in the woods at an anarchist-esque community space with a dog and cat in a cabin without electricity or water for 9 days.

I kind of prefer this, my mental health is way better than it usually is this time of year. I dont do christmas well.

[–] REEEEvolution@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 6 days ago

It was about 4°C here in Germany, warm for December. My little niece loved the presents I got her and I ate like a Hobbit and will propably take days to digest all that delicious stuff.

All in all a pretty good christmas.

[–] OdrobOdrobTelAviv@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Least Christmasy Christmas ever lol

Tho the years prior that used to bother me, now i stopped caring and its just a regular day for me

[–] ahriboy@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 6 days ago

It's warm. Even tropical countries, especially near the Equator, have slightly cooler temperatures. There is 13th month pay in the Philippines and Indonesia.

[–] tamagotchicowboy@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 6 days ago

Good, I finally got to sleep after 2 weeks of retail hell chain clopening and having a generally messed up schedule. I slept 18hrs today, if that doesn't say good enough on its own idk what does, dream quality and content was just the chef's kiss on top. This is also the first Xmas eve they've let me had off in years. Best Xmas eve I've had in decades, 10/10.

For not so good because my schedule was so tight this year everyone is getting their presents in bags this year and no fancy desserts, I'm simply too exhausted to bother with baking or candy making.

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

We had around 3-5° during the day, now it's just slightly dipped below zero for the night. It didn't rain at least so that's a positive, else it would have been pretty miserable. Had a very light dinner because the next few days are going to be pretty full with family events, all involving copious quantities of food.

[–] Maeve1@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 6 days ago

May the weather hold for you during celebrations, comrade!

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I fuckin nailed Christmas dinner, under less than ideal circumstances

[–] Mzuark@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 6 days ago

I'm enjoying myself. My families doing a tree and presents this year, we usually do one real Christmas and one "Everyone hangs out for the day".

[–] Marat@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 6 days ago

Was sick this week, but helped prepare food [Tamales] for Christmas dinner tomorrow. Also watched Home Alone finally. It was good. In total I'm preparing to try to be productive again after tomorrow, working on that trial report, organizing notes and files and such, and reading more.

Trump is the greatest president ever. Not only did he stop hurricanes, he gave us all a green Christmas!

[–] ComradePupIvy@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I know your probably joking, however would you be willing to put a tone indicator, or aditional context to make that clear?

It's about the same temp here in Indonesia, but it was 10F/-12C when I left the US. Just a chill xmas with family, and lots of good food.
