What the fuck is going on with all the goddamned self-censorship online? It’s so shitty and depressing to see people proactively capitulate to these damn cunts and cocksuckers in power. Really pisses me off.

D’oh, forgot tits…

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 27 points 3 days ago (2 children)

People have developed their habits from posting to popular social sites that have heavy handed moderation or word filters. I've known a lot of people who have some really creatively worded insults to get around Call of Duty's ridiculous word filter for example.

It fucking sucks though, and I love that the fediverse doesn't seem to care about profanity at all. Maybe there is an instance or two, but I haven't run across any.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 10 points 3 days ago

I understand, was just trying to shoehorn the 7 words into a semi-satirical post.

Still, sucks that the response to censorship is to capitulate in advance. I’m all for creative insults for the sake of being creative but it’s way beyond that right now.

I am known to be rather stubborn though, so my instinct in such situations is to get even mouthier.

If I could and wanted to post on Reddit, I would post nothing without it being corrected by an AI, and designed to follownall the rules.

Before I started posting on Lemmy I didn't know this was for monetising. I thought it was internet etiquette and I did the same. I thought people found it rude, like here you can't say retard, for instance.

You see that everywhere and you don't know why, so you start following it too. I'm happy some people complained when I did it. I feel like I've lost a burden.

I wonder how many people do that as well not knowing it's meant to please corporations.

That's the insidious part. algospeak is altering language even offline

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 day ago

Ive had friends say unalived and graped in real life as if we aren't both adults having a discussion about fucked up things.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Uhh, looks like a joke to me.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

As was mine. But a joke based on a genuine phenomenon.

Fuck, [dog, bull, any kind]shit, tits, pussy ass bitch, hoe oi cunt, removed nazi degenerative cocksuckers, radical junk fuckface etc. But is it allowed to write n-word or something similar in non-racist context and not only once? (before get banned) Depends on the instances and reports/moderator's mood 🤔 Also i don't find any of the mentioned slur cunning or inventive, tho some just fits various situations, i'd prefer to see words and phrases i haven't seen before, something ironically cool or so hard to identify as humiliation or contempt... like real shit

Edit: wait, word that starts with re- and than smoothly continues with tard and if you feel like it ends with -ed was removed before nazi. Sus as fuck to me 👀

Edit 2: kurwa, gotta reality check lemmy now

This is pretty clearly a bot account with censorship code in there.

Richard Van Lesbian has a nice ring to it

[–] bklyn@piefed.social 29 points 3 days ago

I'm quite certain that if you actually asked Dick van Dyke about this, he'd likely have a similar response, lol

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 22 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

There's a very old joke, which is very long but basically "new guy tries to get an agent, demonstrates a lot of talents, but we've got to do something about his name" which (punchline) is Penis Van Lesbian.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

I saw a meme screenshot of a Twitter post recently where they censored the word:

"stole"

The absolute state of the internet right now

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm like 90% sure this was a joke

[–] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Maybe? I don't even know anymore

Edit: oh if you mean the OP post then yeah you would probably be right lol

[–] logicbomb@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How can he "officially" turn 100?

It's not like the Guinness book has to recognize it before it becomes true.

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Some people count age from conception, but it's only official if you count from birth.

Anyone see Technology Connections' video on the TV Guardian, the swear filter device for analog TV? Ben Eater tore one down and dumped the EEPROM to find it apparently had a specific exception for Dick Van Dyke.

[–] EfreetSK@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

This used to be a joke on Family guy

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 days ago

Ahh, fhe Daedric Prince of Madness himself.

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago

Duck Van Duke

[–] Bgugi@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Don't get to say this as often, but Family Guy did it
