They are self-driving though. It's just that they self-drive into walls, and people, and oncoming traffic etc etc etc.

They filed in 2023? Why are they getting 90 more days? Pull the trigger, and make it year. And, fine them, too. Ten billion should get their attention.
MUST.
BE.
BUSINESS.
FRIENDLY.
Telsa is JOB CREATOR. JOB CREATOR is GOOD.
Me like when Tesla employees and shareholders donate to Gubernatorial campaign. NO HURT TESLA!
Mandate a full refund for everyone effective, then tack on a % fine on top of that. 10% seems reasonable.
As someone who has followed the self-driving car news for nearly a decade, I can say that Tesla’s is dogshit. Even going back to 2017/18, people who understand these systems were saying that while Tesla was first out the gate, their system had inherent, unresolvable issues and they would eventually be surpassed by the legacy manufacturers who were taking a slower but more measured and thought-out approach to self-driving, with systems that would surpass Tesla in short order.
Fast forward to today. Ford and GM both have self-driving systems for highways that are truly remarkable. GM’s Super Cruise has 700 million miles recorded and no reported accidents, which is truly incredible. Now that we have such safe and reliable systems, Tesla has no business selling cars with Autopilot, IMO it should be banned.
As I was recently trying to figure out, who is currently leading the race of full autonomous driving, and only found blog posts about how awesome Tesla is, I would like to hear from you. Who is currently leading? And why do we not hear so much about Chinese manufacturers, like BYD?
For sure we know Waymo is far ahead, there can be absolutely no doubt about that.
In much the same way we also know that Mercedes is ahead, as their autonomous driving has been legally acknowledged for partial self driving.
Cruise (General Motors) was also clearly ahead of Tesla, but General motors ended the competing program to Waymo because after an accident it wasn't considered safe enough, but it was still way ahead of Tesla. And the program had actual self driving services without a human supporting it.
But Also Ford was recognized as being ahead of Tesla, but despite that, they have backed down and has decided to slow down on fully autonomous driving.
So we know for a fact that Tesla is at best number 5, and that's assuming every Chinese company is behind.
GM and Ford have switched to use their research for driver assist systems, and are no longer focusing on or claiming fully autonomous driving. So if we count them out, Tesla may be as high as number 3 now.
GM, hands down. Ford is also very good. I would personally feel very safe in either one. I am hoping to buy an Equinox soon.
They both just have an entirely different philosophy from Tesla. Tesla, being from Musk, has these ideas of the car (trying) to be this cool piece of tech that does everything for you, but without putting in the real work to make that happen. Musk wants to take the human out of driving entirely and we’re just not there yet.
For GM and Ford (and really, everyone who isn’t Tesla), they see self-driving more as a way to assist you in driving on the highways, not some replacement. If you take your eyes for the road for more than a couple seconds it starts to warn you. Then it takes increasing measures to get to you to pay attention, eventually it will just pull itself over the to shoulder.
BYD doesn’t have that in the US at least (I don’t know about China) because you need to to have the US highways all mapped out in detail and keep it updated.
Only 30 days? Cowards.
With stuff like this, you do a relatively short ban as a "warning". In theory that is telling the company being penalized to get their shit together. In practice, it is when you silently document all the ways they are working around the ban. Then you effectively take it back to the courts, say "nothing changed", and ramp up massively. And now you know what loopholes to REALLY rake them over the coals on.
In theory, this is effective. In practice, this is why so many of those EU protections are a complete joke to international companies since it is easier to do damage mitigation than actual compliance.
Fingers crossed, I guess.
Nobody's even buying EVs right now, so this won't really affect Tesla that much at all. Dealers are stuck with a bunch of new inventory that no one wants, because once the COVID bubble burst, everyone realized how overpriced and underequipped they are. I took a ride in that SUV "Mustang" once and was blown away by how Spartan the interior is. Same goes for the Jaguar I-Pace. Even my 350Z, made in the era when Nissan was cutting corners to save money, has a nicer interior than some modern EVs. Yet dealers are expecting people to fork over $60k+ for these bare-bones cars.
To matters worse, you have morons going onto TikTok because they didn't do their homework before buying, didn't have a charger installed in their house, and then go crying about things like charging times and range because they have to spend several hours every day sitting at a public charger after work. They just thought that they could plug their car into a 120v wall outlet and it would be able to charge the car enough. And then other morons watch those videos and eat that shit up.
Sucks to suck, Nazi trash.

A car is a big purchase. Most people who are looking to purchase a Tesla are able to delay their purchase for 30 days.
Slam!
