Why not put the text in the title? No one will remember that the title was "text" and therefore can't search for it. (That's not to mention alt text)

The Voyager app does not have a field for alt text. Which is one of its many limitations, alongside no display names (and thus no pronoun display), and no emoji picker. It has, in my opinion, the best interface and layout of the existing Lemmy apps. I've considered forking it to include these things, but I have no time to maintain that fork.

Why not upstream it instead of maintaining a fork then?

There are PRs right now that fix it, but they remain unmerged. ~~I'm not convinced that the developer of Voyager cares about that kind of accessibility.~~ There is an accessibility option, but it only appears after you upload, and it does not look like the other text entry boxes, so I must not have noticed it previously. I still reserve my opinion in regard to pronouns and display names. Despite display names often being used to display pronouns, I don't see it being added any time soon, even if there is a PR for it.

Voyager supports alt text.

Where do I enter the alt text here.

[–] aeharding@vger.social 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You have to upload the image first, then there is an accessibility button to press.

Alright, fair enough. I do see it when I edit the post. It's not exactly what I expected the interface to look like. I expected it to look like either the Title field or the Text field, since you can put a considerable amount of text into that box.

Ah, yeah it’s this way in case the UI supports multi image uploads in the future!

~~personally, i would enter an image description in the post body~~

oh wait nvm, you already sorted a solution
that'll teach me not to reply without checking context

Yeah I eventually fixed the issue when I arrived at work.
