I have a trans-woman coworker who told me her Southern grannie called her "one of them new types of lady", and how she found that kind of sweet even if it was sort of problematic.

new type of lady just dropped trans-ferret

Is the problem that granny is obviously much cooler than me?

One told me I'm pretty and said "transvestites are cool with me" lol

There’s nothing inherently problematic about saying “new type of lady.” Her heart was in the right place and that’s all that matters.

I think we need to focus less on specific words and more on intention. I’ll take an ally-granny who uses all the “wrong” words over a bigot who condescendingly insult me while still technically using the “right” terminology.

Guh shameful flashbacks to early transition and being super intolerant of well meaning but poorly articulated support.

ITS NEW TYPE OF WOMAN NOT LADY GRANDMA, GOD YOU PEOPLE ARE FUCKED.

My late grandfather referred to me as "a resident of middlesex", rather loudly, at my high school graduation data-laughing

That's full support from grandma.
