Currently the price of copper is $5.45 a pound.

In a truly free society, we would be having widely-publicized contests where whoever shoots the most of these wins.

Lasers are fun, but probably not good for image sensors.

[–] ElJefe@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not at all. It would be an absolute shame if someone took a laser to them.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 8 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Just curious. What types of lasers should I definitely not point at a camera. ? Like specifically the wavelength. Asking for a friend.

[–] perfectly_boiled_pizza@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Wavelength isn't very important but something around 445-555nm is easily absorbed, accessible and pretty. Strength is way more important. Something well made, focused and above 2000mW like this should never be pointed at a camera.

It could also easily and INSTANTLY damage eyes PERMANENTLY, even the reflections. It should be treated with the same respect as a firearm.

That's pretty cheap to take one of those dangerous bad boys off the market and ensure nobody ever points it at a camera!

Are there glasses I can wear in case someone else is using one of these while I'm out and about?

The pair of OD6 goggles that can be bought together with the laser pointer would make reflections safer, but a direct hit in the eyes would still not be safe.

Nah, you just need raw power. I mean, you want to avoid that...

On the other hand, that solar panel has a clear value proposition, and it probably has a battery in there too.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

Why not take it all?

Don't forget, they're going to start issuing speeding tickets as soon as the network has enough cameras.

I really wouldn't make mind heavier traffic enforcement in residential areas. Seems like across the whole country, we have super low limits on highways, and a super high one in neighborhoods, where it actually matters. Not to mention the enforcement seems to only happens on highways as well; can't remember ever seeing someone pulled over for speeding through a neighborhood, but I see it happen all the time.

And on top of all that, even though more neighborhood enforcement would be nice... Flock is clearly not the way to do it

Where I live I see mom and dad getting pulled over all the time for going 30 in a 25 on the way to drop Little Timmy off at preschool, so different everywhere I guess. I wish cops would focus on catching people who've committed major crimes rather than being citation money printing presses.
