Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

"charismatic" figures such as Alan Dershowitz

they are dabbing on us

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 77 points 1 month ago (1 children)

basically admitting that they, the media executives, directly control the range of acceptable political debate

[–] FnordPrefect@hexbear.net 71 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Goddamnit...we're going to have a Pedophile Pride parade in the next 6 months, aren't we? doomjak

[–] Posadas@hexbear.net 75 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's actually called July 4th.

Welcome to A Capital Fourth, with this year’s tribute to all the times our Founding Fathers knocked up their underaged slaves.

bravely committing to nobody ever watching CBS news

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 51 points 1 month ago

My instinctive reaction to reading “pedolawyer” was “which one?”

What the hell is "40 yards of acceptable debate"? Bari Weiss constantly talks like this, it's like English is her second language because she came here from The Planet of Nonsensical Aphorisms.

[–] XxFemboy_Stalin_420_69xX@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

apparently the actual quote was the 40-yard lines of acceptable debate. i.e., the middle 20% of a football field. so her stated goal is to exclude literally 80% of viewpoints

couldnt ask for a clearer example of the untrustworthiness of the bourgeois press

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

"Our goal is to turn the overton window into an arrow slit"

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Literally the meme of trying to explain politics to an American: "Okay so imagine a football field".

[–] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

I'm so smart I can make my own idioms in real time

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 11 points 1 month ago

Yeah they just had go further into it.

Imagine a debate that is only held in the center of the football field and either side only ever starts in the 3rd down and a drunk man questions if this is his moment to streak at any time. Now add in Biden somewhere.. Boom, metaphor complete and every American gets it.

They don't care that Fuetes is a Nazi and Tucker is a ghoul, the line was crossed when they criticized Israel.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 41 points 1 month ago

Is he just there to serve as a lightning rod for the hate? I can't understand how anyone would stand to be around or listen to the dersh.

And of course by "vast majority of Americans" she means "all of the rich dickheads in my social circles." Because if you aren't rich, do you even exist to these people?

NCIS: Martha's Vineyard

Follow the Major Crimes Unit as they uncover antisemitism at every gas station, liquor store, and farmers market vendor that has ever inconvenienced Alan "The Douche" Dersh as he builds a career taking on the most disastrous, unpopular cases for only the richest and most powerful clients in earth.

Grandpa is drunk again and talking about the perogies being antisemitic.

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 31 points 1 month ago

Alan: "I didn't even enjoy the penis massage, I don't like fucking children but like any American if I have to I will!"

Bari: "we were talking about red light traffic cameras."

Nothing says charismatic like an 87 year old man. Also, none of those people get their viewership from CBS so I don't know how she plans to cause this 'sidelining'.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago

Some 87 year old guys are charismatic. Alan Dershowitz's (cue the first 8 notes of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor) sin isn't his lack of charisma or his age, it's his relentless and inexorable path to defend every famous man to murder his wife (to the point of allegedly driving his own to suicide), be a nonce, and silence critics of Israel.

It's a big club, and we need to start taking out billionaires' kneecaps with it cure-for-fascism

[–] someone@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

I think it'd be more fun to use their own golf clubs.

Fore!

probably the first time ever that the dersh has been described as charismatic
