We're following the UK

The same UK that has frequent fascist riots and their "Labour" party constantly placates nazis and their nationalism? It's funny, the chuds live in an alternate reality.

Also, how can someone be simultaneously a conservative Muslim and a leftist? Lmao. I guess it's the same way Trump believes MTG is now a communist too.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 29 points 4 months ago (3 children)

The nationalism issue took a funny turn recently. Turns out that flags everywhere reduces house prices, it's viewed as a sign of antisocial behaviour.

Everyone's not as in favour of flags anymore lmao

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 24 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Nationalism when beating up minorities porky-happy

nationalism when your asset price decrease porky-scared

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 14 points 4 months ago

I hate having to make the argument but if it gets them down I will keep doing it.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 12 points 4 months ago

You know it’s funny. Despite us not being popular, our behaviors increase property values.

CHUDs are tacky, even to other CHUDs.

[–] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 12 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

That's actually a bit of a real issue for us. If you have a poor area, showing that there are a lot of liberal progressives, socialists, young people, cultural spaces, etc. attracts students, the hipster kind of petty bourgeois, rich libs who want to move there, so rent prices go up. If it's a neighborhood where people look at you wrong if you speak a different language or are of a different ethnicity, odds are that the youth and immigrants want to flee. Rents stay low.

And because most don't believe anything can ever be done about landlords, it's a factor that drives workers into the far-right and encourages nationalism, liberal or reactionary.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

If my good opinions are the midas touch, I want to charge landlords for my services in existing in their space and increasing property values.

Not even other CHUDs want CHUDs for neighbors.

If he was actually supporting an Al Qaeda financier, he would have bipartisan support. Haven't these guys been watching our Syrian policy these days?

Noah Smith: I am not happy

good news for me!

[–] unaware@hexbear.net 17 points 4 months ago

zemmour of whatever his name is

"Fun" fact: Former-PM Manuel Valls (under the "socialist" President Hollande) was already using "islamo-leftism" to attack people further left all the way back in 2017.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 16 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Every time I see a Noah Smith take - I have to do a - cough - double take. Mouin Rabbani - a Palestinian and a critic of Israel also uses a Doctor Strangelove pfp.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Noah wears it as an endorsement.

[–] radio_free_asgarthr@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

My guess is that he thinks of Dr. Strangelove as the misunderstood good guy, because he was using game theory and strategy to help overcome the USSR. He is similar to how he sees his role as a contrarian Neo-lib wonk. You have to become completely callous and data driven to get optimal answers like "SNAP actually increases hunger by increasing food prices through subsidy and disincentivizing gainful employment". He sees peoples "irrational" abhorrence at killing billions in nuclear hellfire getting in the way of the long term good of "winning" against the USSR.

TBC I have never seen him say this, but given his takes and behavior, I feel this is right.

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Tbf, Turtle Island libs will justify anything that was targeted against the USSR. Even those more progressive ones who'd usually actually care about protecting the innocent (or about legalism and thus the Rules of Civilised Warfare) to at least some degree, throw that out the window when the nation whose civilians suffer, is a socialist state the Red Scare taught them there are no innocents or noncombatants in, because communists are ontologically evil.

So there's a lot of people who aren't usually anywhere near that callous, who'd think Dr. Strangelove was the misunderstood good guy.

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

Marxism-Leninism-Mahomedanism

[–] Soot@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago

Wait, I'm in the UK, where's all this Islamoleftism I was promised? All I see is Christianrightism!!!

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago

This shouldn't be surprising to see from anyone with 🇺🇸🇺🇦🇹🇼 in their screen name.

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

wow that sounds awfully cool for the "zohran mamdani is a zionist sellout" crowd but idk

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 15 points 4 months ago (1 children)

On one hand he’s leaving a rabid Zionist in charge of one of the biggest armed forces in the country, but on the other some people on Twitter called him islamoleftist. I wonder which has more impact on Zionism

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago (2 children)

i guess we'll just have to see how the mayor of new york affects israel, a country it is not in, whenever he actually assumes power, in like, a month or whatever

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 10 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

i guess we'll just have to see how the mayor of new york affects israel

  1. You are replying to a comment pointing out a specific way in which he is enabling zionism.
  2. My sibling in Christ, you are the one who brought this up.
[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Are we seriously pretending the head of NYC is just some smalltown country mayor who doesn’t know about all this international politics stuff? It’s the hub of world Zionism outside of Tel Aviv lmao

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Are we seriously going along with the constant questions about what about Israel what about Israel like he's running to be the mayor of fucking Israel? lmao

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 10 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Yes expecting a self identified socialist to have a modicum of antizionist tendencies is identical to bad faith debate questions. That dodge didn’t work when he was asked about Cuba and Venezuela on a podcast, so he instead doubled down on the dem line about them being nasty evil repressive dictatorships.

You also were specifically making a point about him being anti Zionist and how the people critiquing him were wrong. Odd to immediately retreat to “who cares about Israel man, guess we have to wait till he’s in power”
