To us: A former Toyota CEO kisses the ring.

To Trump: Mr. Domo Arigato bent the knee, this will look good for me.

To MAGA: We don't want your jap crap, go back to China.

Dudes at a NASCAR event. The sport that had to specifically root out racists which was somehow a bad thing for conservatives.

It already is IMO.

Again? They’ve never stopped.

I know its a lot of shocked not shocked but Toyota has been a consistent bull shit company on environmental impact. It actually did shock me to learn this

Toyota has been a consistent shit company

The bar is set so low by their American peers that Toyota can flop over it.

Good Lord I've seen the headlines but that photo paints one hell of a picture.

Japan loves facism

[–] Horsey@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago

I’d say we should boycott Toyota, but their 220mi range piece of shit EV with a 9” display for 45k$ pretty much does them in without trying.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

Jesus Christ may as well have done a photo op with Trump's micro peen in his mouth wtf. I actually liked Toyota up until this point.

What exactly does this "investing" mean here? Do they essentially donate money to Trump? Do they buy American factories/companies? Do they build new factories? Do they just announce and investment and then nothing happens for a long time?

In other words, who makes the profit here? Did they rip off the Trump without him noticing or did they get ripped off and can't do anything about it? Is "investing" another way of saying "ASiAnS BuY MuRIcaN ComPnAIEs!!!1!" that is more popular with the maga crowd?

All the reports I've seen about this just regurgitate the government speech and give no useful details what's really going on here.

My guess is they're capitulating for forgiveness on the EV mandates.

The best Toyotas seem to be just the plain inline 4's and inline 6's. They did not have a good run IMO with the Prius platform on their SUVs and probably are bootlicking to get exemptions made.

Check's in the mail, babe. I promise I'm good for it. Honey, don't be mad, just let your tariffs down a little. Come on, it'll be just like old times.

Use bicycles, reduce carbon emissions

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

I still haven't gotten over hearing that recording of people who were about to die because they couldn't use the brakes in their Toyota.

Seems I was right to not forget.

Honest question: Assume that I do in fact need a car. I've been driving Toyota since college on account of it hitting pretty much the sweet spot of affordability and reliability. Is there another car company that hits around that same realm that is less morally compromised?

Damn. I'll never buy Toyota. I hope Mazda won't do that.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Mazda and Toyota are partners. Mazdas are actually more reliable than Toyota now. Toyota has a massive recall fir blowing up engines. Their new land cruiser rides like shit and has less interior room than a ford ranger which rides better also.

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Way ahead of you.

[–] Plurrbear@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

Boycott!

CANNOT FIX STUPID!!! :/

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Well fuck! I have three old Toyotas in the driveway I would rather not have spray painted.

Fuck fuck fuck. I was looking for a reliable single cab truck with 4wd and diff locks to convert into a camper. A 90s J70 seemed like a perfect option, but even though I wouldn't be giving toyota any money this feels wrong now... I wonder what other options even are there; L200 is too small for a camper, anything land rover is so unreliable I won't dare go overlanding, and good luck finding parts for older american trucks over here (besides, Ford&GM bowed to fascists all the same)

Yes. I try to take the least shitty route available for most things though.
