"Davon haben wir nichts gewusst".

There is a non-zero chance that the US government or its proxies, have already started mass-murdering immigrants, but the information hasn't leaked out. Thousands are already missing.

Luckily, Americans have a unique talent for pretending things never happened, so ten years from now most will be back to lecturing the world on democracy and free speech. Right now only the fascists have the gall, but they delight in acting in bad faith, because their main goal is to intimidate and disconcert.

We should call out bad actors and support democracy and free speech regardless. No matter how much we resist there will always be people who sit in their armchair and ask why we didn't die for our ideals.

Cool. We're at the Dictatorship Death Squads Stage.

This is such a confusing story—how does someone "hog tie" themselves before committing suicide by hanging?

The confusing part is that there's so many details provided but the report just kind of... awkwardly buries those facts underneath a pile of other facts.

Like the story wants to make you believe that this was a case of the jail being so horrific that this person with possible mental health issues killed themself.

You know, rather than focusing on what the conditions of the body's discovery actually imply: he was lynched in jail.

An autopsy report seen by Newsweekshowed Ge was found tied with a bedsheet, with linens around his wrists and ankles in what the report described as a "hog-tied" position.

Ah yes the ‘ol’ he shot himself in the back of the head type of suicide.

The medical examiner noted that there had been other reported incidents of people who had hung themselves having done something similar, and that there were no obvious defense wounds.

And apparently it’s an epidemic in that prison. Multiple people tying their own hands and feet behind their backs and then hanging themselves. And of course since they couldn’t / didn’t fight back it could only be self inflicted, that’s the only solution to this conundrum here.

It’s truly mystifying how any detention facility can let someone leave their room, create three nooses and then hang themselves without anyone knowing.

Sorta like Epstein managed to do to himself ofc. Really is truly mystifying.

What's worse is the lack of mental health care which could have prevented this tragedy. Mr. Ge's death represents a totally failure on the part of the GeoGroup and the DHS."

And damn had he just had a decent therapist, I’m sure he coulda pulled through somehow. Never mind the abduction, jail, treatment, and nazis.

The medical examiner sounds like a complicit piece of shit implying anybody in that position hung themselves

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

So youre getting a lot of responses, but everyone is latching on to the word hanging instead of ligature.

These are different things. Ligature does not involve the weight of the body, but a constrictive device on the neck. 3 nooses, one on hands, feet, and neck, would make you fully mobile until the rope was pulled.

Suspicious, definately. Should this place exist? No. Insane to be happening in a prison, definately. Unheard of? No.

The confusing part is the use of hanging, as that is a very different form of strangulation.

[–] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 days ago

I guess some lawyer decided it was a bad idea to say the obvious that they were murdered, so you get absurd writing like this

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

Just like Jeffrey r Epstein, best friend of Donald j Trump, and fellow child rapist.

Luckily ICE is taking the matter very seriously:

Newsweek asked DHS whether Ge had been tied up and whether it was cooperating with the lawsuit filed in New York. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin did not answer these questions, but repeated similar messaging on detention deaths: that ICE takes each one seriously and thoroughly investigates them all.

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure 🥴

And that's not all, how about this knee-slapper:

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, in a statement to Newsweek: “Chaofeng Ge passed away at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center. All in-custody deaths are tragic, taken seriously, and are thoroughly investigated by law enforcement. ICE takes its commitment to promoting safe, secure, humane environments for those in our custody very seriously.”

These fuckers lie through their teeth. I really really hope there is a special circle in hell just for people like this. We've somehow managed to find the most vile humans on the planet and put them in charge.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

"After a thorough investigation, we conclude that we did nothing wrong."

New pig same as the old pig.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 days ago

The only hell is the one we make for them. No safety in Argentina.

I hate guns and always thought open-carry was stupid. I get it now. When government thugs are taking people from the street and "disappearing" them, the rest of the citizens (who won't put up with that crap) need to be ready on the spot, while it is happening.

[–] Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Isn't this why Americans have so stridently been justifying their need for guns? To protect themselves against tyranny and government overreach? And now it happens they're all like "Ummm. . . You first!"

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's where American individualism collides with the reality that only collective resistance is effective. "You first" is each person realizing that individual resistance will get them killed. Because the USA is so steeped in the myth of the individual fighting evil singlehandedly with a gun, and in the "collectivism = communism = bad" propaganda, it's taking time for the population to adjust to reality and organize. Unfortunately the fascists keep busy in the meantime.

At the time? In a four-against-one situation? They will vaporize you. If you decide to go 2A in the moment of an ICE kidnapping you'll end up a page 12 story and leave your mother without a son. You're not John Wick and they will be ready for you with body armor and better training.

If you want to serve refugee communities there are many, many ways that don't involve the inevitable loss of your own life in extreme, violent ways.

Edit: Be real, real careful when internet tough guys try to encourage you to commit violence. People who really do stuff like this don't talk about it first, so there's a 100% chance what you're reading was posted by a keyboard warrior or a fed.

[–] teft@piefed.social 28 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Better training? Not from what i’ve seen. They appear to be scared children with guns and cs grenades that go off at any loud noise.

[–] modus@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

Better funding. Definitely not better training.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Better funding. Their "training" is practically non-existent

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Yeah there's only one kind of whistle for ICE, in my opinion

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 0 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Still stupid. Carry a gun and ICE will just murder you.

[–] eletes@sh.itjust.works 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Murdered on the street or murdered in a detention center, same outcome

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Most people will calculate that there's a chance of survival in detention but no chance of surviving a gun battle with multiple cops. Armed resistance needs to be organized and collective, because the individual calculus is always this.

[–] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

They don’t need to murder you. The criminal cases against ICE protesters in Texas hinge on the government’s assertion that carrying a weapon to a protest is evidence that you are planning a terrorist act (also, wearing black, using Faraday bags for your phone, and traveling to protests in groups are all now considered evidence that you are planning terrorism). So, carry a gun near ICE and they will call you a terrorist and disappear you.

Murder is bad optics, but label someone a terrorist and America will cheer while they execute you.

[–] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 39 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So every ice kidnappings can now be assumed to be murder.

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (2 children)

What's the saying, if you're kidnapped the odds of survival drop dramatically after 48h or something.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Or when you're taken to a second location

[–] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't see how that's pertinent. I was more thinking about for bystanders and intervention.

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

If you're a bystander or intervene, they'll have no qualms arresting you and seeing if they can deport you, and while they do that, they'll withhold live saving medicine, food, and might even hog tie you up apparently, and if they've had you for 48h or more, I'd say your odds are having been murdered by them like this are much higher. If your skin is even remotely not white, you might even be trafficked across state lines before anyone knows you've been kidnapped.

I think if you intervene like you should, you won't be arrested.

[–] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

I feel bad for laughing at this.

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 days ago
