how many times have we seen massive waves of this sentiment even if we only count the last ten years? and yet they keep decanting more liberals out of the vats and cultural hegemony remains intact (has probably gotten stronger since a low point in 2020)

It's always someone's first time properly paying attention to politics. There's no silver bullet argument, no specific citation of recent history that will immediately dissuade them of the usual civil-religion yankee-liberal brainworms. But you make the arguments and cite the history anyway, so that the next time Democrats fail them, they'll have enough context to see it for what it is.

Yep, it took a long time for me to get as left as I am today but I did eventually get there. Have patience and never stop explaining.

It's cyclical, this happens a lot during a conservative president's first year or two; liberal politicians cater to the conservatives, liberal voters get angry at their own party for capitulating and working with conservatives, then when the election cycle ramps up the vast majority all vote lib again

We have to build alternatives. It's coming.

And then they're going to look at the green party

Or maybe they look at DSA that's doing entryism in the DNC

Yeah so go and meet them there and keep them moving along. Only a fool would expect a liberal to head for the mountains and join a Maoist militia the very first day after learning that people to the left of them aren't so bad after all.

You don't even have to join DSA to meet them, PSL and others often show up to the same protests and events in my town (as it should be). I guess I haven't seen Greens so much, but WFP at least.

Right, I would caution anyone against getting their hopes up about ex-Bernie Bro types immediately joining the intifada after this bullshit shutdown self-own, but this is an important step in the process.
