Of course he didn't have to, but he wanted another headline to flood the zone and distract from the Trumpstein Files.

Didn't have to send troops to arrest citizens either; just wanted to.

[–] SGGeorwell@lemmy.world 41 points 3 days ago

Didn’t have to rape Jane Doe. Just wanted to.

No shit, Sherlock. The majority of people don't like you.

Next admin - if there's a next admin - should tear it down again, but don't build anything in its place. Just leave it as rubble.

One thing this country could use is a visibly obvious scar to prevent us from forgetting the unfathomable damage that can be done to ourselves when we give power to someone like Trump.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 33 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The next admin should tear it down because it is probably filled with foreign listening devices

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That's a bingo! The United States is probably 90% exposed. All of their deepest secrets are completely compromised. I mean we have a Russian asset as the president, Russian asset as the DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE, classified documents all over the place because of the extreme incompetence of this administration, and a million other fully exposed positions.

It's to the point where I really don't know what to do about it other than shrug. There is nothing that could meaningfully change it at this point. It's insanity.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

it'll take decades to clear out all the bugs, literal and electronic.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Have you considered using fire?

wise man say idiot who burns down house to kill bugs still burn down house.

in this case, might be the only option really

Tear it back down, prosecute everyone involved in this resign if terror, and dedicate the space to being a museum detailing their crimes and punishment

[–] mrcleanup@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I was thinking, build a new, brutalist, mainly underground executive complex and turn the white house into a museum. The ballroom houses an exhibit on the warning signs of oppression and fascism.

I just hope all the lawsuits happen before he dies. But I'll settle for dragging his bloated corpse to court.

But I'll settle for dragging his bloated corpse to court.

I can't imagine him smelling worse or being any less useful, so it should be allowed.

[–] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago

I'm sure he'll shit himself less when he's dead

[–] BrikoX@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Lawsuits are dead in the water. It's official acts and presidents are immune for all official acts as of 2024.

[–] Protoknuckles@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Laws change. We just gotta change the Supreme Court.

If he can't be punished in life there's always damnatio memoriae.

Appropriate his presidencies to "not worth mentioning" and make that the official way for the government to refer to him. Seize his assets and remove his name from everything associated with him. It might not be necessary to ban mentioning him; he'd already throw a fit if he knew that the United States have officially decided to not remember him.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Mmm... Formosus.

[–] smh@slrpnk.net 4 points 3 days ago

Go all Cadaver Synod on him?

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That's just a miniature example of his complete lack of give-a-fuck about anything but his personal desires. People are shocked that he doesn't respect history or anything that means something to others? Just wait.

[–] oh_@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

He would have to know history to respect it. He simply is also ignorant.

[–] tornavish@lemmy.cafe 12 points 3 days ago (2 children)

There is no coming back from this.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Its just a building, I am more concerned about the destruction of human rights.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 1 points 1 day ago

It's symbolic. Apparently saying the quiet part out loud isn't enough anymore, now they're performing metaphors to make it really sink in

The destruction of the east wing is the pointless and haphazard destruction done to the government. The great Gatsby party was a feast celebrating people starving. A ballroom bigger than the white house is promise the president will keep the rich having fun first and foremost

The building itself doesn't matter... But the kind of president that would destroy a national monument just cause is the kind of president that doesn't care about our country, let alone human rights

[–] Pistcow@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Because I don't hold them equally valuable.

[–] tornavish@lemmy.cafe 4 points 3 days ago

I meant this as in the direction of the United States.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

so if someone destroyed part of your garage you're cool with it?

I mean, it's not like you live in it.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

My garage is detached and has been leaning at a 20 degree angle since I bought the house, they would be doing me a favor. I get your point, I am not happy about it either but it comes no where close to important as people being literally disappeared right now.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

I'll take some of that action. This is easy cult money.

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago
