This could have ended up very badly if where only two beers.

There 10 kinds of people in the world. Those who count in binary, and those who dont

That's tertiary to you, pal.

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 4 points 2 hours ago

...and those who didn't expect this joke to be in ternary

Pretty sure he's ordering 6 in this image.

[–] ironhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 1 points 44 minutes ago

You mean 7 beers.

Binary on fingers really comes into its own when you need to order 1023 beers over heavy background noise. Except when there's a mix-up and you end up with -1 beer.

[–] mikezane@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

He should be sticking out his thumb and index finger. With the index and middle finger up he's showing 6.

[–] kubica@fedia.io 24 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

It looks like the way to ask for 2 beers would be quite offensive.

Endianness matters quite a lot in this situation

Didn't realize Tommy Lee Jones was bartending these days

[–] Godnroc@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

So, the minimum number of anything you can order would be zero fingers or 1...

[–] SpacetimeMachine@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Nah it's meant to be binary. 11 would be 3. Although theoretically he should be holding up his pinky and ring finger.

[–] ramius345@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 hours ago

He must work on a big endian machine.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Glad he picked up another friend. Ordering only two was getting him into a lot of trouble.

[–] 30p87@feddit.org 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Huh, why? Only four would be a Problem. Even worse, 132.

[–] belluck@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 3 hours ago

In the image he isn’t using his thumb to count, so 2 would be the middle finger.

It almost works better without the quote

[–] user1234@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I think it's more meant to be programming humor. 0=1, 1=2, 2=3, etc

[–] markstos@lemmy.world 1 points 2 minutes ago

It’s a Roman numeral…
