Image is of the Herðubreið tuya in northeast Iceland, formed when ice sheets covered Iceland thousands of years ago. It's not really relevant to the Grindavik situation but I think they look neat. The title also doesn't make much sense but I saw the pun and took it.

Off in Iceland, different kinds of tunnels are causing problems. Underneath the town of Grindavik in southwestern Iceland, not far from the capital of Reykjavik, tens of thousands of earthquakes are portending the movement of magma in tunnels underneath the peninsula, which could breach the surface and cause an eruption. The 4000 residents of the town have been evacuated as the magma has risen to less than a kilometer below the surface.^TRG^

Icelandic volcanism is pretty fascinating, with the country sitting on the mid-Atlantic ridge, the birthing line of new oceanic crustal rock running right down the Atlantic ocean for many thousands of kilometers, as well as a hotspot, an upwelling of mantle material of debated origin which also feeds otherwise-inexplicable volcanism in the middle of tectonic plates, like Yellowstone and Hawaii.

An additional factor here is the presence of glaciers. When a volcano erupts underneath a glacier, the melting water cools the lava rapidly, causing features usually seen in volcanoes that erupt under the sea like pillow basalts, but also unique features like tuyas, which are steep-sided but flat-topped volcanoes. The rapid melting of water can also cause glacial floods called jökulhlaups.

Icelandic volcanoes have had significant regional and even global impacts in the past. In 2010, the volcano Eyjafjallajökull, which was a volcano covered by an ice cap, erupted and the ash cloud spread across Europe, causing airline disruption for about a month which caused nearly $2 billion in total losses for airline companies - though this seems pretty quaint compared to the pandemic's impact on airlines in retrospect. Back in the 1780s, the Laki volcano killed a quarter of the Icelandic population due to sulphur dioxide causing massive crop failure and cattle death. This eruption's impacts spread to Europe and beyond, causing notable worldwide temperature drops and thus crop failures and may well have been a contributing factor to the outbreak of the French Revolution, which obviously heralded the death of the feudal order and the eventual primacy of capitalism in its place. That being said, any eruption at Grindavik is very probably not going to have any significant worldwide impacts - there are over a hundred volcanoes already in Iceland, and regular climate change is doing a great job at causing mayhem right now anyway. It's also still possible that there won't be an eruption at all, at least not in the short to medium term.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Keep reading rumors about a 5 day pause in hostiles. Just in time to bury the conflict before Thanksgiving

Rybar end of day

spoiler❗️🇮🇱🇵🇸 Aggravation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict zone

chronicle of events leading up to November 15, 2023

The IDF operation in the Gaza Strip continues. The focus of attention is on what is happening in the Al-Shifa hospital, where the Israelis discovered Kalashnikov assault rifles, CDs, and a laptop while searching for the Hamas headquarters in the evening. The front line remains unchanged.

Attacks on various settlements in the enclave continue as usual. IDF aircraft have bombed Khan Yunis, Al-Brej, Nuseirat camp, and other populated areas. Meanwhile, the first trucks with fuel have entered Gaza through the Rafah checkpoint, and several dozen Russian citizens have exited.

On the border with Lebanon, the confrontation has not changed. Hezbollah has attacked at least six Israeli border posts, while the Israelis have carried out strikes throughout the day in the outskirts of sixteen Lebanese villages.

I am a touch concerned with the speed of Israeli progress right now. They were seemingly unopposed when they took Al Shifa overnight and I'm concerned if that tactic continues to work.

Holy mother of fuck - these IDF fuckers.

IDF spokesman shows 'video of Hamas infrastructure under hospital'

IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari has been holding a press briefing showing what he says is evidence of Hamas infrastructure at Rantissi hospital.

Hagari says the video shown to the press shows Hamas equipment - explosives, suicide vests, and even a motorcycle used in the 7 October attacks - hidden in a basement under the hospital.

He says the Israeli army also spotted baby bottles, a makeshift toilet and a small kitchen in the basement, which he says points at Hamas holding hostages here. "This is a war crime... This is a crime against humanity," he says.

Hamas has consistently denied hiding its fighters underneath hospitals.

Look at these pictures of France training nazis

This and other articles also make much about the camp being "secret" and not being allowed to mention its location; it's this one.

For any Hexbears venturing to other instances: would it be useful to have a list of previously discredited Israeli propaganda?

A meteor crashing into the White House would be a net good for the world right?

If the United States were represented by a vase, and destroying said vase would kill the United States, I'm tossing that shit to concrete, and maybe I'd take a hammer to it just for good measure.

The original version of the above I was gonna write would have most likely been removed for violence. I'm just gonna leave it to your imagination.

Accumulation Through War: Capitalism and the Blood of Gaza

Because this is a struggle for all of humanity, whenever the Arabs and Palestinians submit to Zionism, capitalism strengthens its grip on the rest of humanity. Conversely, whenever Arabs and Palestinians triumph over Zionism, the imperialist grip on the peoples of the world weakens. Gaza is at the heart of this intensification because it is at the forefront of militarization and the capitalist process of accumulation through war.

On one hand, one might initially pose a seemingly logical question: wouldn’t sending food, medicine, and even rebuilding Gaza be cheaper than bombing it with bombs worth millions of dollars? How does it make sense to bomb a house with a bomb whose cost is exponentially greater than what it destroys? Isn’t that material loss and in contradiction with the capitalist principle of profit accumulation?

Gaza precisely answers these questions by understanding capitalism and the role of Zionism in it accurately. War here, contrary to the portrayal of mere material and financial losses, is part of the budget of the occupying entity and its economy, yes. But from a historical materialist perspective it is a process of capitalist accumulation. This accumulation through war makes war, for Zionism, a precondition of peace and continuity, culturally conditioned into [settler society] as Joseph Massad illustrates.

This can be understood from two perspectives. Firstly, the blood of the people in Gaza is, in a literal sense, profit calculated in dollars for American arms companies. With every residential block destroyed and every massacre in Gaza with a bomb like the MK84, for example, this, in the literal sense, is a figure recorded in the invoices of the US company General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GDOTS) and its budget for the year 2023. The other, more complex and detailed perspective, is that, according to the logic of capitalist accumulation, one of the main capitalist goals of accumulation and profit-making is to reduce the price and value of commodities and labor. The lower the price of labor, through deteriorating economic conditions in their country and pushing them to emigrate or work for Western factories at low wages, the more it is in the interest of German, United States, and British capital. Similarly, as the prices of natural resources used by capitalist companies for the production of their bombs and weapons decrease, it means more profits for the capitalist class in the West. When we talk about reducing the value of humans and land, we are talking about reducing the value of entire countries and societies. And this process is carried out through [imperialist] wars.

Most importantly, this is the primary role of Zionist-imperialism in the Arab world and globally. Just as the World Bank and the IMF provide financial tools for capitalism to accumulate profits and perpetuate poverty in Asia, Africa, and South America, “Israel’s” role is [perpetual] war and keeping the Arab world in a state of poverty and weakness. This is to reduce humans into mere inputs into the calculations of capital. Just as the process of reducing the value of Gazans to work in the economy of their enemy and to be killed on an industrial scale by [imperialist] military commodities, the fate of being Arab in our present era is to be Syrian, Iraqi, Yemeni, Lebanese, or Libyan, killed or displaced, working for the white man in Europe. Because your Palestinian brothers and sisters have been in the forefront for over seventy years, facing the killing machine without pause for decades, and because they are the subject of this historical profit-making process, this makes the mere existence of Palestinians an enemy of Zionism. The existence of the Palestinian is an enemy of the complicit elites, classes, and the normalizing Arab regimes–those elites who sold millions of Arabs to survive the onslaught of accumulation through war. This is what makes Arab resistance [against Zionist-imperialism] on every front, a battle for all of our futures.

Cw: combat footage, implied death

New hizbullah war trailer dropped. I noted a lot of explicitly Palestinian imagery (wall, child rock into rocket, kite, flag, something I’m assuming translates to “road to Al-Quds) https://streamable.com/8fnnsk

About Argentina, it's my understanding that Millei, despite having elite backing for his campaign in general, doesn't have elite backing for his more crazier economic policies, there was an interview in the FT with an argentinian billionaire who was like "yeah I'm funding his campaign but obviously I won't let him do this and that". Which tracks honestly, in so far as the bourgeoisie is aware of itself right now they probably know not to take economic deprivation too far lest it possibly cause a leftist upsurge, just take it far enough that they'll make money with the upcoming privatizations and friendly state actions.

And obviously he doesn't have mass support from labour either, so with no elite backing or a mass movement behind you how are you actually going to change things that much? He'll probably just compensate on the cultural front by attacking queer people and other minorities like other right wing populists have.

Even if the idea of an anarcho capitalist Venezuela where things get so bad there that you can just say "oh you're a neoliberal, look at argentina to see the consequences of your ideology" is pretty funny (though not funny for Argentinians of course) I don't think things will get that drastically worse, just progressively worse as usual.

As to why he got elected, back when he was climbing the polls I remember Matt Christman (get well soon our lord and savior) saying it made sense because radical right wing anarcho capitalism was one of the only political tendencies that hadn't been at one point or another integrated into the mashed up ideology that is Peronism, and since that has been failing the country people are going for what they perceive "hasn't been done yet" or something like that
