I think making shit up is actually a decent path to making a lot of money. Musk, this guy, or even theranos. Holmes only went to jail bc she faked actually making the thing. If she said she was just developing it or whatever she would probably still be banking. How long have we been waiting on the Tesla semi?

See: scientology, psudoscience, every cult, every Multi-Level-Marketing scheme, and every pyramid scheme ever. Anyone want some tulips?

Some dickhead in a silk suit yelling lies as the value fluctuates is the end game boss of the ‘Subjective Theory of Value.’

This kinda shit is what happens when you totally disregard the value of the labor. What’s a thing cost? Whatever that liar in the silk costume says it is, I guess. Because that’s our metric. Some shit guys like my-hero and Steve Jobs promise.

It's all bullshit top to bottom. Just look at fucking Bitcoin. Zero embodied labor, zero real world use case, doesn't create efficiencies, just a waste of resources and time. And one is worth as much as a tractor because reasons.

It’s extremely jokerfying to contemplate those “reasons.”

I was listening to Yanis Varoufakis talk about how the new data/cloud capital untethered from the physical “means of production” in our modern era. I don’t know if I fully agree with his take but it’s very interesting. But it’s definitely more stuff in the vein of what we’re grinding our axes over lol

I'm in the AI will be transformative camp but it's early days and could go either way

The maddening thing with AI is there is no good outcome. Either it works and a shitload of currently employed people lose their jobs, or it's a dud and the market collapses. There's no winning for the worker.

[–] SupFBI@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ultimately no winning for the state, either. Unless they're willing to murder 100s of millions. And well, they probably are.

They'll just put everyone on the dole. But it will be the meagerest most miserable existence possible.

thinking about it this way it will be one of the biggest upward wealth transfers in history

I dont even get how investors ever fell for his shit. He's not even particularly a good liar. Every interview I've seen of him is him looking extremely nervous and timid, hoping the interviewee bought whatever he said. Back in my day you had to have some charisma and composure to be a successful conman.

If you're a skinny, introverted white nerd who knows a few computer words, people will automatically assume you're competent at whatever you do. Source: My personal experience.

When I was at uni, I had a biochemistry lab class where I was grouped up with 2 overachiever girls. Me and my unmedicated ADHD barely ever knew what was going on and the two girls carried me through the class, but every single time someone else came over to ask us for help, they came to me first.

Pretty much confirmation that the plan the whole time was to get paid to build out the next iteration of the surveillance state.

Also that stupid-ass Studio-Ghibli-style AI-generated profile pic is a nice encapsulation of this guy's relationship with creativity and human ingenuity: chopping it up and wearing it as an unconvincing disguise.

Gary Marcus was blocked on X by Kara Swisher in November 2022 for saying that the board did not trust Sam Altman. Marcus remains blocked by Ms. Swisher to this day.
