Back to a command prompt, but this time the command prompt randomly won't follow commands. But it also will pretend to suck you off sometimes.
A command prompt that hallucinates. Truly the worst possible way to use a computer.
If you like the command line, you want it to actually fucking work consistently. If you don't like it, you're not going to like a text based interface that tries to fix the discoverability problem with a hallucination machine.

The consistency and "say this, computer does this", is literally the only upside to the command line interface. If you remove that part, you've created a completely useless interface.
The year is 2027, I type “word” into my Windows 12 Copilot edition and wonder what’s its response will be this time: will it define the term “word”? Will it open the web version of word on edge+copilot tm? Will it open the desktop word app? Or will it assume I’m saying “word” like the slang term popular in 90 rap and respond to me in kind as if I want a conversation?
I'd say the only way to use this without going tear-your-hair-out mad would be to use the chatbot to open a command prompt window and use that to actually do things, it'll be like going back in time to the DOS era, everyone using Windows will have to learn the terminal they're so afraid of Linux because of, but those chatbots are so damn inconsistent that I doubt they'd even consistently give you the command prompt window when you ask for one. Assuming that MS don't remove the option entirely, of course.

Productivity will plummet. And capital will blame lazy workers, and no one with power to ditch this buggy junk will identify it as part of the problem. Because that's what always happens when common work tools are enshittified.

If I had to deal with a Work Computer, I'd probably agree with you. Anything's gotta be better than Windows. And Unix-like is Unix-like, I guess, so some CLI stuff should work the same even if huge chunks of the system are different.
Mac is like light years ahead of Windows in everything. CLI is great and the UI is uniform. It also runs smoothly. And the battery life is incredible, best in the world hands down.
Unfortunately that is true, if you had to pick between swallowing the windows or macos pill and can't install linux on them, macos would probably work out more

one of our sister hospitals is trialing an AI that records audio of you talking through your patient assessment then creates a flowsheet column automatically. it's opt-in / the patient has to agree to it and only keeps the recording until the nurse has validated the data but it does seem strange to me.

I bet you Windows 12 is going to make having a webcam to login mandatory. They already have the option of logging in through facial recognition since Windows 10. It's going to be like this:
Windows 12: Login through facial recognition is the default way to login, but there are ways to login via typing like before alongside other workarounds like using a drawing so you don't have to send your biometrics to Microsoft.
Windows 13: They will remove the option of typing and completely remove the workarounds. You will have to submit your biometrics to Microsoft to perform basic tasks on Windows.
And there will still be people swearing up and down that Windows is the best option. Even if they don't use any Windows only software.
You can do everything with voice commands and eye tracking, and it will work how you want it to 75% of the time!

Yeah. My problems with Windows are ideological and geopolitical, not just technical. I am a communist outside the US but still in their sphere of influence. To use a piece of known spyware made by a US company on a device I use to connect to the Internet and talk to other leftists, and to do my hobbyist fiction writing with a leftist bent, is a terrible idea. So I refuse to do so. Plenty of better and safer options that also respect me as the only user and system administrator far more. Do I think I'm important enough for personal opsec to matter? Of course not. Am I going to take reasonable precautions anyway, especially ones that cost me nothing/are good excuses for generally better habits I was going to strive for anyway? Of course I am.
I would love to have a totally different OS option than Linux. That would be great. MS took that from me.
I dont disagree about letting users have choice, but it's disingenuous to claim that they are choosing if they are only being told there is only one choice and never being shown any of the other options.

I know that. I'm not saying everyone should have to use Linux or even that it's often a better option these days (although I do think that's true, at least for my personal computing needs). I'm just ragging on Windows because it's done a few idiotic things of late, which I've had to hear about because ~99% of my social circle uses the damn thing.
