Land of the free!*

Welcome to the police state. Its been many years in the making but now they are perfecting it.

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 59 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

reason 43922 to not use social media.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 16 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

Do you think Lemmy will be exempt?

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

of course not. Lemmy has one less problem than reddit, so still 43921 reasons.

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 5 points 2 weeks ago

I think it's more difficult to identify me from an anonymous account where I don't even talk about myself that much than from an account under their legal name with a bunch of pictures of themselves.

[–] demonsword@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Do you think Lemmy will be exempt?

not large enough to be a worthy target yet, IMO

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's the beauty of AI. It can look everywhere without requiring additional manpower.

[–] amju_wolf@pawb.social 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

And if it doesn't find sources it can just make shit up! ;D

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

It'll be handy to have a tool that makes things up that they can use an an excuse to arrest you.

[–] DarkSideOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe community needs to work in a way lemmy does not have too much loving of posts, so protects privacy. It’s possible since it’s open source.

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago

ChatGPT also told me it was reason 452fishdodgeball🥧 to not use AI as well.

[–] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 2 weeks ago

Look who thinks just because they don't have an account social media and ai aren't surveiling them, they could never never link you /s

In case you haven't noticed, ICE does exactly what the Gestapo did in nazi Germany. Mass surveillance, razzia's, operating in civilian clothes, crimes against humanity, sending people to concentration camps. The people are deported to foreign concentration camps, the only difference is the people ending up in death camps, so far, as far as we know of. But how much do we know about those foreign concentration camps?

[–] absentbird@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

El Salvador is literally running a death camp, they don't plan to ever release the prisoners. They just keep them alive for free labor and to avoid the stigma of running a Holocaust; but Germany was the same at first, they only ramped up the death at the end of the war.

[–] elvis_depresley@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

that is a scary thought ...

[–] DarkSideOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What about the Aligator Alcatraz (or something) that 800 bodies disappeared?

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago
  • Alligator Aushwitz
[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 29 points 2 weeks ago

Or course they will, what did people expect?

People have been saying for years that if the nazi shit happened nowadays it would be a wet dream for them with all and everything online, easily accessible and already categorized.

[–] veeesix@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This seems like the kind of thing that would be easily susceptible to manipulation by more AI.

[–] dubyakay@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Or even fed false information by not AI.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Accuracy doesn't matter when they are just using it to justify their targeting of brown people.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago

I hope they get to read this:

Suck my dick ICE. Get a real job you masked losers.

[–] Ulvain@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"That’s absolutely right — my mistake! Sorry for that mix-up! Looks like I just confused a respected Latino councilmember with, uh… a totally different kind of public figure. Whoops! Let’s definitely not send ICE after the wrong person again 😅 Thanks for catching that!"

[–] rozodru@pie.andmc.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

"Ah - I see the problem now! you're trying to detain people of color and those spreading political dissent!"

[–] DarthAstrius@slrpnk.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

Hey ICE, suck my fat white cock.

[–] BlackPenguins@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Couldn't people send them on wild goose chases by flooding social media with "I saw an illegal over in x area" and then send them to the whitest county in America?

What we're entering is a bot arms race. Counter a bot doing bad things by other bots flooding bad Intel.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What we've learnt over the last decade or so is that it's a lot easier to generate bullshit than it is to verify it.

[–] atx_aquarian@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I don't know why I thought this one was older. Wow!

[–] Neverclear@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Blaine County, Nebraska is the whitest county in America, in case anybody was wondering.

[–] BlackPenguins@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

We got a target boys. Bots, assemble!

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 12 points 2 weeks ago

secret police is gonna survail. Can't make a dick tator ship without breaking a few articles/amendements/laws/norms/etc

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 10 points 2 weeks ago

The five-year contract with government technology middleman Carahsoft Technology, made public in September, provides Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) licenses for a product called Zignal Labs, a social media monitoring platform used by the Israeli military and the Pentagon.

🧐

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I’m about really to install a camera in my toilet and just pipe the footage into something flock connects with. Surveil this!

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Went must you ruin this?

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There are going to be so, so many false positives.

Not that it matters. The shitty data LLM's produce hasn't stopped them yet.

[–] Zron@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

False positives implies the people will be real.

It’ll probably just invent people to hunt down and waste a bunch of tax dollars.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago

Oh no! Who didn’t see this coming?

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

ICE can waste their time on me :3

Fuck fascism and delete nazis!

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

It doesn't take AI analytics to figure out I'm as far left as they get and come pre-radicalized. I'm the ANTIFA overlord they're looking for.

I've practically invited them to breach my door.
