I love how the word-averse guy has the most words.

I think of lot of people are semi illiterate and embarrassed by it

here in statesia they aren't embarrassed

"Brevity is the soul of wit."

No, that's not some illiterate buffoon who said that, it was literally Shakespeare.

[–] Honytawk@feddit.nl 3 points 1 day ago

Have you read any Shakespeare?

Guy couldn't even write proper English ffs! /s

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 2 points 1 day ago

It's funny because the character who said that was very verbose, if I recall

[–] WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

why do you think they are embarrassed? those like in the comic are even proud of it

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 7 points 1 day ago

Well, maybe. I think some people on the inside are embarrassed, and they then lash out or deflect to cover that up. "Yo reading is stupid", the guy says, crying on the inside because it's hard for him and he's too ashamed to ask for help.

But maybe some people are just regular proud to be illiterate

read too? didn't. long.

[–] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This is too long for my attention span. I usually only read comments with like two or three words. Can someone give me a summary?

[–] Rozz@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 day ago

Too long; need summary

At this point I believe that there was an advanced civilization 20,000 years ago .... then they devolved into an absolutely stupid culture of people that didn't care about reading or writing any more that they could only communicate by drawing simple stick figures and line animals on a cave wall.

Then they all evolved again to become us.

And we are continuing the cycle by dumbing ourselves down to the point where cave paintings will become meaningful to us again and we can repeat the cycle.

If you haven't read the later books in the HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, at one point it's revealed that an ancient spacefaring society gathered up the most useless people they had (I think it was ad copy writers, telephone sanitizers, and hair stylists), shoved them in long haul spacecraft designed to crash land and destroy themselves entirely while safely delivering the passengers, disabled all internal controls, and pointed the craft at ancient earth.

They unfortunately outbred the native neanderthals. This also completely broke the earth's original purpose of being a giant biocomputer.

And then there's the guy whose like "this comic could be two panels shorter!" because timing and pacing is a myth, apparently.
