MK Ultra was an umbrella program for more than just using drugs to mess with people. It was like a CIA-within-the-CIA. The hyperfocus on LSD is a limited hangout.

Here's a list of tons of leftist movies.
I was waiting for someone to drop a "limited hangout " and it didn't take long, ha. anyway, I'm not expecting any new or interesting disclosures out of this project but I doubt david chase would only or principally care about the LSD angle, whatever the source material does.
I liked Boardwalk Empire, another HBO period drama. Mainly because it has Lansky, Luciano, Rothstein, and others as they build this criminal network that becomes part of the deep state. Gaston Means also shows up as a minor character and that's pretty funny. You see a dramatization of the local government corruption schemes in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and NYC. It touches on the Anglo-Irish war and Cuba about 20 years before the revolution. And it's all character actors like the earlier days of HBO dramas.
I will probably watch this.
As others have said hopefully it could be good if it's not entirely acid focussed(or if it is at least make the Timothy Leary agent connection clear, and even maybe cover the Process Church/Manson connection also) and they get into some off the less well known parts of MK ARTICHOKE, Operation Midnight Climax, the Edgewood arsenal experiments outside of just the psychoactive drug 'research':
And get into detention camps they set up in Japan, the Philippines and Germany for all sorts of illegal and unethical human experimentation including electroshocks and other forms of torture with or without drugs being involved
Oh fuck yeah I'm so down with this.
Prestige TV fans (the most annoying people on earth) are gonna be constantly loudly misunderstanding mkultra
Clearly done to paint a narrative that the CIA wants out there. So now when you search this, this prestige TV series will come up and finding actual results beyond wikipedia on it will be much more difficult. It'll also create a cultural consensus on what it was and I'd bet what they portray it as is not the sexual abuse of children, not the blackmail of Senators via that, not the trying to mind-wipe those same kids and program them into assassins, not something involving people who were later elevated to presidency of the American Psychological Association, not all the other wild and horrible shit but just wacky hijinks with LSD and a few colorful charlatan types and maybe a bit of the Manson connection, that type of thing.
I will never feel mistaken in my belief that parapolitics in 9 out of 10 cases absolutely makes you worse at anything relevant to current politics and events.
My prediction is that this will only be good if he looks at it through the same sort of farcical lens as the Sopranos, where you have CIA guys throwing wads of cash at every charlatan who claims he fought the nazis using hypno agents.
Any of the stuff that feels actually interesting to me is the extremely boring analytical shit or the broad information control stuff that is too dull to put on television.
