1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

Rough math is every American, rich or poor, old or young, is giving Argentina $100.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 90 points 5 months ago

Or, alternatively, every taxpayer is giving them $200. For reference this is almost three times the amount of his aid cuts from back when.

[–] cley_faye@lemmy.world 32 points 5 months ago

Why would the rich be part of this discussion? Not paying taxes, not giving loan to foreign countries.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

That doesn't even account for China buying all future soybeans from Argentina instead of us. Massive economic impact, even if you never interact with a farm in your lifetime...

[–] bear@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 months ago

China was already buying 3x more from Brazil largely due to older trade disputes.

[–] angband@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

More like the rich are giving 60$ and the middle class are picking up slightly more.

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.ml 11 points 5 months ago

Please, the rich aren't spending a dime.

The middle class is giving 100 and low income workers are on the hook for everything else.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 130 points 5 months ago

Wow, who knew so many bankers were closet Antifa Generals all along?

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 113 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I wouldn't lend Trump $40B either. Dude's already been convicted of 34 counts of loan fraud.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 44 points 5 months ago

It's $20B from banks, $20B from the US government.

[–] falseWhite@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

They're not lending to Trump though. They're lending to Argentina, and they would get their money back from Argentina.

But banks know they won't get their money back, since Argentina had to be bailed out 20 times in the past 70 years. That's on average, every 3.5 years.

What are the chances they won't need another bailout in the next 5 years? And what are the chances of banks getting their money back from a country that goes bankrupt every 3.5 years?

That's the main reason.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

I would neither lend money to Trump or Argentina.

[–] Donkter@lemmy.world 62 points 5 months ago (1 children)

If Trump starts insulting the banks and trying to impose control on them that would be a sight to see.

[–] RoidingOldMan@lemmy.world 35 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

If you can bully banks into giving Argentina $40 billion for nothing, then the whole world's financial system seems to come into question.

[–] ctrl_alt_esc@lemmy.ml 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Lol ehat? Banks have been giving loans to Trump although he was deadass broke. If you still believe into any kind of integrity or logic in the world's financial system, you're in for a rough awakening.

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Banks have been giving loans to Trump although he was deadass broke.

Russian ones, sure. They gladly fund a willing ass hat if it means the ruin of the US.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 10 points 5 months ago (2 children)

No, he was using Deutsche Bank, the world's dirtiest bank, for years. His money-laundering activities with Russian mobsters came to light when Deutsche Bank was investigated in the 90s. I was surprised he wasn't arrested back then.

That's why his whining about Comey "spying" on him is such bullshit. The FBI wasn't spying on him, they were investigating a known international criminal with extensive ties to Russian mobsters, which is literally their job.

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 months ago

To tRump, any investigation is spying like and no is a suggestion.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago

Yeah it's not the FBIs fault that Trump REPEATEDLY met with a Russian agent that they were surveiling.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 59 points 5 months ago

Trump trying to sale a bad deal to the banks? This has never happened before.

[–] kikutwo@lemmy.world 57 points 5 months ago

Radical Leftist Bankers always worried about the dollar!

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 41 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I don’t even understand how he hasn’t been arrested

[–] minnow@lemmy.world 22 points 5 months ago (1 children)

SCOTUS said POTUS is immune for official acts.

I'm sure there's no conflict of interest involved with that or anything, though. And besides, what could go wrong?

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

Well, you see the first step is you just refuse to seat an appointment by the president so you can place the choice of your president after the fact, and claim, we should wait until the election is over.

Then, when your president is in power and the exact same fucking situation happens again with an appointment during an election, you do your best Nelson hahah, and appoint her anyway.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 17 points 5 months ago

scotus and and both houses are afraid of him, so they give him full rubber stamps.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 38 points 5 months ago (2 children)

also the 40bn is meant to bailout some bessenets former associates who invested poorly in ARGENTINA, not the argentinan people.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

Not poorly. They bought debt second-hand for pennies on the dollar and want to be paid the full amount.

Debt vultures.

Trump can just get President Elon to send the money.

[–] melonhusk@sh.itjust.works 28 points 5 months ago (1 children)

well, it only took them a few decades to learn his credit score isn't just... whatever number he says it is.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

Yuge. The biggliest credit score ever seen.

[–] ghosthacked@lemmy.wtf 25 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I can see the future.

The left isn't capable of stopping trump, but somewhere in his future a disenfranchised right-wing nutjob has his number.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 6 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I really hope not. Him being assassinated would make him a martyr and shit would really hit the fan then.

I hope he dies of natural causes on live TV

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

I hope god smites him down with a lighting bolt while he's lying about not being a pedophile on TV.

However he dies, I will celebrate it with a bottle of cheap wine in my cupboard.

[–] slingstone@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Yeah. We saw what happened with Charlie Kirk. Killing these people creates a new idol for their followers to worship.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 months ago

The attempts on his life have all been from right-wingers.

[–] FailBetter@crust.piefed.social 23 points 5 months ago

the woke banks will pay double!
80B for the patriot Milei!

[–] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 21 points 5 months ago (3 children)

So does this mean that we were wrong?

It was never the Russians who had Trump by the balls, it has been the Nazis all along?

[–] Ghyste@sh.itjust.works 18 points 5 months ago

Group effort.

[–] falseWhite@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Trump is a Nazi, the biggest one. What other Nazis would have him by the balls?

[–] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Putin clearly knows how to lead him around like a dog on a leash.

But he is giving 40 billion dollars to Argentina, very urgently. Why the fuck is he giving 40 billion dollars to Argentina?

[–] falseWhite@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

He needs other Nazi allies, there aren't many of those and he's hoping he can buy some.

[–] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 4 points 5 months ago

Why not Russian Nazis?

[–] SSUPII@sopuli.xyz 20 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (4 children)

It's also a baseball term for when a pitcher illegally stops their pitching motion.
