A canabis recall for too much THC sounds like a brilliant marketing strategy

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The issue is when you advertise one concentration and go significantly above it, it can cause problems. If someone with a low tolerance looks at the label and makes an informed decision about how much to take and then it turns out the label is wrong and they're actually way stronger, they're going to have a bad time

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Absolutely, I'm very careful about dosage. It's more of a packaging recall than a product recall assuming it's within legal limits.

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It also sheds light on some potential quality control issues. If they can't control their dose properly they're probably messing up other stuff.

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

That's a good point, I'd be weary.

[–] aceslip@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 month ago (2 children)

To be fair, the product is absolute garbage. Even with the extra thc

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Yup. In Canada legal edibles are limited to 10mg / dose. AKA nothing to anyone who consumes cannabis daily.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I consume daily and my hard limit is 10mg. My partner's is 5. All bodies are different.

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

I wish. I've tried T-breaking into oils, candies, etc and every time I'm doubling the dose every 3 days until it just makes more sense to smoke.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

By that, do you mean that's the minimum dose you need to feel anything? 10mg is practically a threshold dose.

I'm a medical user, so for me, that minimum is ~350mg. Anything less is a waste of time. It sucks, which is why I prefer dabs instead.

[–] HellieSkellie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago

What 10 years with no T-break looks like:

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Uhhh what, 10mg is pretty decent and you could just take two doses? Some shit products advertise 500mg THC and barely do anything, others advertise 10mg and put you on the floor. I suspect the products claiming super high doses are either not decarbing or blatantly lying.

Also obligatory THC isn't everything, other cannabinoids are important

[–] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

This is missing from the discussion. High THC can go along with quality but does not have to. There is high THC crap that I find one dimensional. Isolated THC in a medicine turned out to be unpleasant for many people.

In the plant It's a bit like you can only stuff so much of a cannabinoid into the resin without decreasing something else.

In NYC the weed industry is the wild west. It's near impossible to find anything under 20mg/piece because there's no regulations (the whole rollout of legal weed there is a clusterfuck). I have heard a LOT of stories from friends who knew nothing about doses and assumed that a 100mg pure THC nerds rope (or similar) would be fine. I once accidentally took 35mg thinking it was 5mg and had to Uber home sick. I've heard of kids getting into their parent's stash too

I now live in Canada where the image is from and I'm sooo grateful that it's both cheap and regulated.

Here in Colorado rec is limited to a similar limit but with my med card I can get packs that are 200 mg per gummy and come in packs of 4000 mg.

I feel like edibles don’t do anything to me. But maybe I just need to make my own, cause whenever I buy gummies i keep eating them and I just get a very very mild buzz

[–] KingGordon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Eat something fatty with them like a spoon of peanut butter.

[–] Zoot@reddthat.com 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They could also be like me, some people lack the enzyme that breaks down THC when consumed. I've tried literally everything from making my own with a few oz's, to tinctures, gummies, pills, any an all of it. Had friends who thought I was joking so they would happily hand me stuff to try and I would just gladly enjoy the taste :(...

Neat party truck though to eat a dozen cookies while everyone else has 1 and are stuck on the couch while I look like the crazy weed addict completely unfazed.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I had a friend like this but the cool trick went away when they started taking omega 3 supplements, hit them hard after

[–] Zoot@reddthat.com 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Never heard this. Would be happy to try it, but I've definitely tried all the other things lol. Way it's cooked, with a fatty food, even eating a bunch of lemons or getting citric acid. Nothing has allowed me to get s high from edibles :(

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 4 points 1 month ago

If you do try, update us after a while

[–] Proles_Uprising_Now@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I felt like this a few years ago and taking a T break then eating a gummy in the morning with nothing in my stomach proved the way for me.

I usually don't get high like when you smoke but it bridges a gap to when you can smoke. I also only take 20mg to get by and about 60 to watch a movie or something. Try empty stomach after small t break.

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I'v heard some people say the first couple times you eat them they don't do anything, or if you have any kind of stomach disorders (like GERD) that this can reduce effectiveness

all anecdotal though

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Precise dosage is important. This isn’t a case of more is better.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I'll take my chances.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Agreed. Too much THC results in too little terpenes, weakening the high. I rather have a good concentrate in the 60-80% range with nice terpene profile, than that 95%+ shit that tastes like candy and barely gets you buzzed.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Do most terpenes even have an effect if ingested orally?

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 5 points 1 month ago

If they can't even get the specific amount right for the main ingredient, the entire point of the product, what the fuck else is in there, and in what quantities?

[–] swagmoney@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

maybe I'm weird but i just want low THC with nonzero CBD 😭 why is it so hard to find?

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I always figured if you want less thc just have less of it

[–] swagmoney@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

yeah so i roll a joint and take one drag from it and I'm uncomfortably high for an hour :/ i can't really have less than that.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

If there's one thing I love as much as weed, it's probably that type of packaging.
