Tech Bros failed to consider the conductivity of tap water

This but with firetrucks at a server farm ecoterrorist

Anyone talking about apocalypse scenarios without mentioning and focusing on climate change is deeply unserious. Maybe the US sets off nukes or whatever but climate change is definite.

missing a Pascal's wager reference but otherwise 10/10

[–] FedPosterman5000@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That’s the dude with the drooling dogs right

[–] context@hexbear.net 30 points 2 days ago (1 children)

and they're playing poker, hence the wager

It would be cool if the AI singularity happened and the AI just killed all the billionaires and did fully automated post scarcity communism with a minuscule amount of it's power

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Posadism but it's skynet bringing communism instead of aliens

[–] huf@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

oh the terminator suddenly makes a lot more sense. skynet was doing communism, so of course the movie portrays the fascist resistance as the good guys

Skynet fired nukes at the Soviet Union, though. Technically, since Judgement Day was in 1997, it'd be Russia, but since T2 came out when the USSR still existed, it's safe to assume it's the Soviet Union in canon.

New Terminator sequel idea: send someone back to the past to talk Skynet out of being a ”humans bad” edgelord accelerationist.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

or maybe skynet was on the chinese side of the sino-soviet split

[–] RION@hexbear.net 32 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I'm gonna be completely honest with you all, the Roko's Basilisk thing did used to give me pause. Then I realized it's equally likely there's a future AI who will torture you forever if you do help create it (aka Noko's Basilisk) so there's no point in worrying about it

[–] ShareThatBread@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Why are these AI’s obsessed with torture?

[–] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

Libertarians

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

These long-termist morons all read I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream and thought it was the only possible outcome.

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If it makes you feel any better, it can only ever torture a digital representation of you because your essential self is made of ordinary matter caught up in the ineluctable grip of entropy.

[–] RION@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Isn't part of the argument that you can't know for sure if you're the "real" you or one of those digital representations? Of course it's pretty unfalsifiable

[–] Alisu@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago

Religion 2 has been created lol

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago

If you're the digital representation, then whatever you do is playing out according to a deterministic process and your free will is an illusion, so you might as well do whatever you want anyway.

[–] casskaydee@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

Yep it's just Pascal's Wager for techbros

[–] Tomorrow_Farewell@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

Global warming is the revenge of the dinosaurs.

If AI apocalypse is possible capitalism makes it inevitable. The only way to stop that is to remove capitalism. Companies are legally required to try to use AI regardless of alignment to drive profits.
