is immediately followed by
"which is why we need to shut down and punish everyone who speaks out critically of him (even if it is just in our imagination)!"
As always "free speech" only applies to anyone who aligns with the status quo. Everyone who laughs at him for swallowing a bullet is "supporting terrorism" and will be fired from their jobs at best

They do it because they want to shut down dissent, they don't want anyone calling them out on their behaviour, they want to browbeat everyone into agreeing with them, and will try to destroy anyone who doesn't. It's not about Kirk, that's just an excuse, it's entirely about control.
