Disclaimer: I'm neither a tigerologist or a wolfonomer, and I'm generally basing this on guesswork.

For starters tigers are huge. But wolves are pretty huge too, larger than most people think. I believe they are only slightly smaller than Tigers (at least the tigers I saw as a kid in a Danish zoo).

And I imagine a tiger would have a hard time defending against multiple simultaneous attackers, something I believe wolves like to do, being pack animals.

So my guess is 2 wolves could take down a tiger. Maybe 3.

Source: I'm talking about stuff I know little to nothing about. Do not place any bets based on this.

Swede here, I have been inside the wolf pen and petted wolves at Kolmården, before the accident where a wolf pack killed and ate a handler....

Anyway, they are indeed very large, and they have a very coordinated pack, so yeah, two or three could probably do it.

There's an estimated 300,000 wolves worldwide. If 10% of them could kill a tiger, then there are 30,000 wolves that could kill a tiger.

This isn't purely hypothetical since tigers and wolves are both present in the Siberian taiga. I'd say it takes 5-6 wolves to take down a tiger with any amount of reliability but it hugely depends on the individuals. Also most fights would probably end without deaths since these animals aren't really on each other's menus and would probably just fight over territory or a stolen kill.
