Local man Jeremy Philips has taken a major step to become the first man he knows in their 20s to buy a second set of bed sheets.

This comes as Jeremy was walking through the shops and on a whim decided to pick up a second set of the exact same sheets he already has, which are the cheapest ones he can buy in his area.

“This is a big step for mid-20s man-kind,” he said of the purchase, “this must have been what Neil Armstrong felt like.” [...]

Deleted the first link because the audio wasn't supported in browsers (so I converted and re-uploaded) but it only deleted locally and didn't federate, certified federation moment

I have summer and winter sheets, but why would you need 2 of the same sheet? It doesn't take 24 hours to wash and dry bedsheets.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 2 points 23 hours ago

That's a dangerous game. More than once I spent a week sleeping on the couch because I forgot to finish drying my sheets on Sunday.

Lol, must be nice

[–] HonoraryMancunian@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Plus that person's forgetting you need to minus the time of one of the sleeps

Meh. A washer dryer combo with a 60C express wash is a bit over an hour and if there's only a set of sheets and duvet covers in the dryer (and they're cotton not synthetic so you can run it on hot), the drying doesn't take much longer.

So easily under 4 hours, I'd say.

And there's even a 15 min express express wash. That and just the sheet and duvet cover in the dryer and you're looking at less than 2 hours I'd say.

I'm not a wealthy person, but I am lazy, so I invested in tower combo when I moved here as I'd prolly never wash anything otherwise. Or I would, but then I couldn't be arsed to hang it to dry.

I like having a spare because I can quickly change the sheet whenever, throw the dirty one into the laundry machine, and deal with it tomorrow. I don't have to start the wash/dry cycle in the morning, I can do it whenever I feel like it. It facilitates my laziness.

When I take out the trash I put the new liner in before I leave the room. When I wash sheets I put the new set on before I leave the room. Motivation is a fickle and fleeting thing.

[–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yes, but wanting to sleep on sheets is rather motivating

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

I duuno, I've raw dogged the mattress out of laziness many times. Now my wife handles it all. (And before you call me sexist, I actually get in trouble for doing "women's work". Cultural thing, but she's come around a bit.)

[–] MHLoppy@fedia.io 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This can have the other effect: instead of making you want to get the sheets ready quickly, you might just not do it at all 🫠

Thankfully I'm not a heathen that's willing to sleep on a bare mattress. To me, that's almost as bad as wet socks or soggy food sticking to your hand while washing dishes

[–] MHLoppy@fedia.io 1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Haha, I meant not willing to wash it in the first place so that you still have sheets on the mattress (just, you know, old ones :P)

[–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 2 points 21 hours ago

Oh, yeah I thankfully have a good habit of doing all my laundry on Sundays, but I see your point

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Plus if you have a second set of sheets then you need space to store them.

[–] jaycifer@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

That’s what the bottom drawer of my dresser is for.

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 6 points 2 days ago

I mean you can have one set and still wash them while you're awake. Not that I do.

[–] miked@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've been meaning to buy a second set but keep forgetting.

When in school I would use one set for a semester, throw them out, and buy a new set.
