Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

To be fair though, he meant blacks and gays, not white conservative men.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 week ago

Then he should have had the balls to say it. This might have happened sooner and saved some oxygen.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

to his dying words too. He got asked about mass shootings and used the anti-black dogwhistle "gang violence?" BLAM. DEAD.

Remember the only good Nazi is a dead Nazi, no sympathy

I know its wrong to be celebrating when this could become a much bigger problem but you know what fuck it: ha ha

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Problem?

Oh, you mean, someone might see this and be inspired to shoot an innocent person, in retribution?

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

More like: Trump and his fascist goons are always on the lookout for any excuse to paint themselves as victims and crackdown even harder on citizens.

edit: to be clear, I'm pro Nazi-killing. I'm just anti-strawman when there's a v clear interpretation.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

but that's exactly it, they're going to do that anyways and use any excuse for it if one doesn't exist. this doesn't escalate things in that respect

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

They have no trouble making up provably false bullshit to justify their actions anyways.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

They're already doing anything they can. Let them get fucked a bit.

No. As a result of him dying, one of the people spreading the hate filled propaganda causing the problems in the US is dead. Mini Goebbels just died.

[–] prex@aussie.zone 5 points 1 week ago

For a moment he felt good about this. A moment or two later he felt bad about feeling good about it. Then he felt good about feeling bad about feeling good about it and, satisfied, drove on into the night.

Douglas Adams

There's literally masked gangs disappearing people all over the USA right now, national guard in D.C. and plans on sending them to other cities, so something like this was pretty much inevitable. 9 months in btw.

[–] FlowerFan@piefed.blahaj.zone 25 points 1 week ago

so glad he could sacrifice himself for what's most important to him 🥰🥰

Hopefully republicans will now see why peaceful political discourse is a benefit for everyone. Though I strongly suspect that they'll just try to monopolize violence to continue as always.

[–] necrobius@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I'm happy he was willing bear that cost

[–] Kusarihime@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 1 week ago

Well then at least he died doing what he loved

[–] alx@piefed.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 week ago

Wtf i love freedom now

[–] drolex@sopuli.xyz 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In unrelated news, new 24/7 unisex toilet is about to open

[–] niktemadur@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

They're gonna get uber-librul Nancy Pelosi to cut the ribbon at the ceremony!

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

damn trump got rid of limbaugh and charlie kirk.

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You really think Dump cared about this loser?

[–] vinceman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

His social media and the fact he literally called for flags to be flown at half mast would indicate he does care very much.

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Tomorrow is 9/11. Hijacking the national day of remembrance to put the spotlight on a sycophant is extremely on-brand.

[–] vinceman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's gonna be wild because this actually has the potential to have this administration literally forget to talk about 9/11.

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh I don't think they'll forget. They'll use it as an excuse to push more propaganda.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

one less propagandist doing the pushing though.

[–] collapse_already@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Leave it to Charlie Kirk to find a way to make gun violence acceptable to (some of) the left. It's nice to see a hate spewer get his comeuppance.

Perhaps his name will enter the lexicon as an example of when a person suffers the consequences of their own advocacy. For example, if RFK, Jr. died of influenza because he refused the flu shot: "well, he really Charlie Kirked himself."

[–] WhiteRabbit_33@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Like the Herman Cain award, or is that too 2020?

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 7 points 1 week ago

Do not let those with a monopoly on violence tell you that violence is wrong.

May his life and legacy be forgotten by even his closest family.
