Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.
  • Β

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

Funny that the pride flag is on the left when the most impressive Linux devs I've ever met all did their best work while caged and plugged in thigh highs but... Whatever

I hate these kind of memes, the punchline is always just 'girls stupid, boys interesting' every fucking time.

    Literal kindergarten behavior.

    [–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 24 points 2 weeks ago

Well, the punchline of this one is that they think the Linux logo is Club Penguin, but yeah, the original (if it ever existed on its own) is bad.

    [–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 68 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Imagine being stuck in a conversation with that fucking guy.

    [–] remotelove@lemmy.ca 36 points 2 weeks ago

I think a conversation about Hannah Montana Linux could be quite entertaining.

    [–] Quokka@quokk.au 19 points 2 weeks ago

    I know right, how exciting.

    [–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 62 points 2 weeks ago

β€œDo you want to go to dinner some time?”

    β€œI eat starch, btw.”

    [–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 58 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I don't even think whoever made this uses linux; Linux is by far the gayest OS

    [–] MiDaBa@lemmy.ml 29 points 2 weeks ago

I'm transitioning between distros right now

    [–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I remember using some rust tui program a lot to get an annoying thing to work like connect to my uni's propreitery vpn tho might have been something different.

That thing worked even on freebsd. It was very well done too just worked out the box and didn't use much memory and so on. Simply reliable code.

So I looked at the github repo to see who made it and it was 20 people with lgbtq flag or anime or both as their pfp.

    [–] QuazarOmega@lemy.lol 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's when you know the shit is good, and I'm not kidding

    [–] mutter9355@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The best (Linux/FOSS) software either has a github repo where all devs have anime profile pics and πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ-flags, or you found it on a random website that looks like it has last been updated in 2005.

I feel personally attacked because I am her (love Billie Eilish, being queer, listening to my music via Tidal) BUT at least I do know like 4-5 of the logos haha

    [–] lagoon8622@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Don't feel attacked, this meme is stupid as fuck. It's 9th-grade Roblox "humor"

    [–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago

Ragebait, I'd say. And it is working apparently

Is that one of those incelmemes ppl talk about?

Srsly though, I find any meme that puts a whole gender/generation/ethnicity in one spot awfully stupid..

    [–] asceticism@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Personally I would give this one a pass for the self deprecating humor. Also the meme in a meme with the miss identified icon. But I would most of them are normally just horribly bigoted.

    Hail to KING ~~baby~~ DAIRY.

A business (Dairy King) using the Tux penguin as its mascot (wearing a crown and holding a burger).

    [–] hedge_lord@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

All the girls want to talk about gay, but I just want to talk about postgres! There is nothing better than postgres, and database management systems are a great way to break the ice on the first date. But women just don't understand it!!! All they want to talk about is gay, saying things like "you seem really nice but you're crying in my arms at 3am telling me of your lifelong desire to date a man who would understand postgres, I'll support you no matter what but have you considered that you may not be entirely straight?" Silly women!

It took me a minute too…

While the original meme is cringy gatekeeper shit, I think the joke is that person replying to the picture called tux β€œclub penguin”.

    [–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I mean… is it even gatekeeping? The woman’s interests is… only interested in TikTok Billie eilish and lgbt?

Then the umm… very cool looking guy. Hannah Montana Linux? anime?

    Be that guy?

    lol.

I recognize "Clean Code" in there. Isn't that the programming best practices book that seriously recommends programmers to have a hard limit of three-four sentences per function, or something like that?
