I'd say a larger part of the population being aware that they can reject "unsolicited requests" is a part of it.
Also, it requires meeting people to some extent. That sounds boring.

I'm guessing this graph matches closely with anime viewing... The true amplifier of Japan's population decline!
To solve this crisis, we must make catgirls real and unleash an army of bland ~~protagonists~~ young men with almost no personality that possess some overpowered skill. Such as the ability to stay thin despite the ready availability of sugary/processed foods.
Can't we just get Truck-kun to Isekai a bunch of people?
Oh damn, this won't be good for the stick market
Probably depression, online dating ruining the entire dating world, and the economy sucking.
I remember growing up, you could go to a bar with friends, meet some people and there was always someone hooking up quickly. Or you grabbed a phone number and you were good for later.
Now it's more "are you 6 foot tall?" "do you make six figures?" "what's your snap or insta?" "are you a racist nazi that will murder me in my sleep?"
Then they can always say, ehhh, your not attractive enough for me, i'll go on tinder and DM one of the 60 guys waiting for me. BYEEEEEEEE
Do you count more if you have sex 3 to 4 times a week?
Besides plenty of other reasons people mentioned, Gen Z in particular is pretty antisocial. I've seen them hang out at bars, they might get one drink and just stare at their phone. Just anecdotal, but from what I've gathered it definitely feels like those type of folk either don't know how to have fun or are averse to it. I don't mean that in a completely negative way, either. I think covid really made a lot of people in general more socially inept. Again, I don't mean that to denegrate and I've definitely felt that a bit myself.
Younger generations seem to treat basic conversation as cringeworthy. Like the fact that you’re even talking to them is seen as appalling, regardless of the context.
I’ve seen kids walk up to a register at a fast food joint, then act surprised and put off when the cashier asked for their order. Like the cashier was in the wrong for initiating a conversation. Oftentimes, the kid won’t even respond until the cashier is like “ooookay, uhh… If you’re not ready to order, can you step out of line?”
The best description I’ve seen for it is “they’re waiting for the dialog options to load.” Because it 100% looks like they’re just waiting for some external force to move the conversation along. It reminds me of when boomers get the lead paint stare while waiting for the card reader to finish reading their chip. The machine will just be dinging at them to remove their card, the cashier will be like “Uhh sir? Please take your card” and the boomer will act surprised. Like they were just stuck in a loading screen while the rest of the party was already pulling mobs.
I'm a millennial who just spent the last 7 years at Uni/CC and I'm not seeing any of this. COVID had a huge impact, but in general things seem pretty much the same as when I was in school in the 90's/early aughts, except they're on smartphones instead of Nokias. They just seem normal to me.
It could be the aging population. If 100% of people 20-40 have sex and 0% of 40-60 then that's 50% if both groups are equally strong.
Now if it's 1/3 and 2/3 then it's only 33%.
Yes.
