looks like homestuck inc. abused and exploited the dedicated fans that made an amazing archive of the webcomic (including an emulator for its interactive elements) and then killed it when they couldn't steal it from them.

i'm only about halfway through the blog post and it's pretty bad, hussie is a real piece of shit wtf

This has to be because of the show they just announced, right?

This was not driven by copyright concern, community relations, or any healthy professionalism, but by spite and a need for control.

huh, guess not

Yea hussie’s just always been kind of a petty asshole but now has the cash needed to play god (I’ve been keeping track of whatpumpkin’s descent for a while, iykyk)

homestuck. wow that shit takes me back. i remember trying to get thru the archives... 20 some years ago? So many online folks talked it up but it wuz not my bag. i vaguely remember the animated and interactive parts were interesting but the story wasnt enough to keep me clicking

Yeah, same here. People speak really highly of it, but I bounced off it hard every time I tried it. Just not for me I guess (which is fine).

desolate Oh god he was friends with Toby Fox, please don't let him turn out to be a jerk too

[–] WIIHAPPYFEW@hexbear.net 28 points 3 days ago

Nah Toby’s a good egg when it comes to fan projects (talked his lawyer out of taking down the undertale yellow soundtrack+quite a bit of deltarune c4 dialogue could be seen as a nod to the fanwork community), he’s just a Hussie associate bc he worked on homestuck from Hussie’s basement while he was going to college (not making this shit up btw)

I remember loving Homestuck so much, this is really frustrating. Probably should've guessed Hussie was or would become awful, but man it's sad to see it true.

On another note what's going on with the official site? I was trying to re-read Problem Sleuth but had to find some archive as the site doesn't work.

[–] woozy@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

seems like they broke their own website and then took down the most reliable and authentic way to read their comics, problem sleuth was available in this collection too. i heard the official site was having issues for years i-cant

wondering out loud to myself if the stuff described in this article is what led James Roach to quit Beyond Canon

if you've already downloaded the unofficial homestuck collection it looks like it still works and you'll still have it so maybe it will be redistributed by the community, just can't be hosted or maintained by the creators at this point.

Every time i hear about homestuck it is about the creator being a dick. It used to be that every time I heard about homestuck it was because the fan base was obnoxious
